Show us Object Desktop in action

Your ideal screenshot

In an article I wrote about Object Desktop I made some screenshots trying to show Object Desktop in action.  Quite a few people commented that my screenshot didn't really make Object Desktop look very appealing.

So what would a good screenshot of Object Desktop look like? In this thread, show us your screenshots that you think demonstrate Object Desktop effectively (be sure not to show things like ObjectDock or other non-Object Desktop parts in it).

Moremegil had several back in the day that did a great job. They got me hooked.

The Faus-X needs to be brought to 2005

Looks great, but way too busy, IMO. It looks a bit disorganized.

hehe.   Yeah, its busy.  But most of the time it's not all open.  I thought the idea was to show stuff in use.  In a day I might use the radio, then no need for the media player so it hides.  Wall changer comes up to change a wall, or to show it off... news comes up to catch the news but then it hides.  media player plays but not all the time the visualizations show and then it hides too.  Really, I guess to show off OD a person needs animation.

I don't want to speak for Brad, but I would think the idea would be to not only show what OD can do, but do so in an environment that the user would want to use on their own system. I know personally, the themes that have always appealed to me not only look great, but are very organized and functional. I think showing all the different things it can do would be better served on multiple screen shots, rather than trying to fit everything on one screen in kind of a haphazard way. YMMV.

In echoing Tarkus, I think Object Desktop does to much to be able to show it in a single screen shot. I think you might do better to create some sort of short clip someone can play showing what each application does. It's the only way you can really do it justice.

This is a more "Mac-ish" desktop. What I would like to see is someone using the Object Desktop components to build their desktop into something that's a bit different and more productive.

This one shows up Theme Manager a bit. Theme Manager really is one of the most powerful Object Desktop components.

In 2005, immense work has gone into Theme Manager that most people are probably completely unaware.  For example, IF you have SkinStudio installed, Theme Manager will display and apply .msstyles as if they were any other file on your system complete with a preview -- all without hacking your uxtheme.dll. And when you get your desktop just the way you want, you can save it.  I use that feature a LOT.

I agree. I'm extremely impressed with that theme, and I think that's something Stardock should use!

My favourite at the moment is CM Digital Revenge, but this like, for example, Cubism is not easily updated for the non-expert. I've tried all the documentation I can find but it doesn't explain things in detail. On cubism I would like to change the weather icons to the full set of 48. I can see how to change the code in dxscript2 file but it doesn't seem to work. Digital Revenge has no mechanism to add or subtract things from the side popouts.
Generally there are some brilliant ideas out there but they are not carried through for the layman. Maybe Stardock (now a multi million dollar company) should insist on certain standards, and force these through. CUI is a good idea but whoes running with it.

For the record, the glowies are firefly objects that float around the screen, while the icons zoom and turn opaque upon mouseover. ;; I'm addicted to transparency effects.
