I am also very new to SysStats, but have had some luck and a lot of fun playing with it.
The big thing that holds me back is that when you configure a PDH meter, the dialogue always seems to reset to a default "processor" Performance Object, rather than remembering what you set it at last time you had it open. This can make experimentation a pain. But, it does remember what it's set to as long as you don't open it again! meaning, it sems to work, although I don't trust my CPU meter because I can't figure out exactly what it's doing.
I have gotten my network usage meters running, though. It appears that these really are machine specific settings, but I should be able to get you in the right area enough to find your correct settings.
From the top then. With SysStats 2.5.4 and SysStats Pack 1 correctly installed, right click on your dock. Select Add Entry -> SysStats
Right click on the image, should be a default blue "?" and select load.
Browse to the network.ini file, should be in the configs folder, and select it.
At this point you have the arrows graphic, but maybe not numbers correctly displaying. I hope.
Right click again and select Configure...
Select Meters Tab->"Net In" then click Configure button.
Here is the basic Configure menu for the meter. The scale works good at 1k
Click the Configure button in this window.
(So many steps called "Configure"!)
Now we're at the really confusing GUI. If you're like me, it says Processor in the drop down, even if that's wrong. But you'll set it right.
Select "Network Interface" from the drop down (you may have to scroll up the drop down). This set of meters is cool, as the useful ones are listed right at the top. Have the radios "Select counters/instances from list" checked.
Select Bytes Recieved/sec on the left, and in my case, my wireless card on the right. This box on the right is the one with options that vary from machine to machine, I think, but you can figure out which one to select ( I have another item listed beside my Wireless Card, but I don't know what it is).
Now, and this is VERY IMPORTANT, click the "OK" button on the left next to the self-explainatory "explain" button. Do not habitually click the "Cancel" button like I did for about an hour thining it was the OK button ("Why won't this work!?!?! oh.")
Repeat the meter config for the Net Out meter, selecting Byte Sent/sec.
Should do the trick.
Now, if someone can set me straight on the IP Address script, I'd have this object working completely.
EDIT: I hope you're the type to read all the instructions before you actually begin. After you Load the network.ini, immediately Save As... something else. Otherwise changes you make will go into the original *.ini file. No biggie, unless you ever want to start over. If it's too late, just repair it with one from your SysPack 1 zip.
