The REALLY simple WindowBlinds skin..

For total minimalists..

One thing that sometimes is overlooked is that WindowBlinds skins can be very very simple. Programs like SkinStudio make it easier to create fully featured skins that can change the entire look of the Windows GUI.

But what if you're just getting started and want to just make something pretty basic? The link below is a tutorial I wrote awhile back that shows how easy it is to create a WindowBlinds skin. Just need Notepad and a few bitmaps and with 60 lines of instructions (including comments) you have a simple skin.

Thanks Brad and Exodus, every little bit of info helps all of us begginers.. Night Train provides ALOT of help in this area to at his site..

The thing that I really get confused about is Copy Rights.. For example, say I wanted to make a skin of a movie or a series from television and I used a bunch of items from DVDs to make the skin.. I have seen a few skins where the authors have done this and no permissions text within the skin..thats where my confusion is..how does someone know what they need permissions for and what they do not?

And what is the best way to get them?, I have tried Emailing MGM and others seeking permissions before I begin on a certain project and I get totally ignored..::sighs:: I would hate to think that I didnt even need the permissions to begin with!

Thanks Werewolf, and I do realize that, I think if I am to put that much effort into something though, being able to share it with people that would appreciate it would somehow make it much more satisfying than just creating it for my own use..

I have already created a few things for personal use, that for whatever reason will not pass moderation. I am thinking it is the copyright thing..but it could be that the work is just horrible..LoL..without a rejection Email it is tough for a "Newbee" to really know.

I can create and submit, if it doesnt pass then it is simply another item that is marked for "Personal Use" or trashed altogether..
In any event I am just seeking input to help me get an idea of what is and isnt acceptible. You have to admit it does get confusing when you see certain stuff getting accepted that you would assume would be copyright protected..

The Tuttorial that I followed is the one provided with Logon Studio, it gives you a basic idea of what you can do and will get you started..
The more advanced methods however are something your going to have to learn by experimenting..comparing the Theme.ini and the UIFILE.txt against those that you create to see what you can change to get the desired outcome.
I guess some of the really good authors simply write their own files and use the studio very little during their creation...
