Hi all.
My Cursor XP has stopped working. When I double-click on the executable, nothing happens. When I access the CursorXP tab in the mouse control panel, all the options are greyed out (but the tab is still there). If I double click on a theme, it will show a progress "generating cursor maps" and then the displayed cursor in the CurXPCPl.exe and the tab in mouse control panel will show that theme, but it doesn't apply to my cursor which is displaying as the default. Cursor XP is still set to boot during startup, but does not.
I am using Windows XP Home, SP2. I have only Windowblinds, Bootskin, ObjectBar, Icon Pacager and Cursor XP installed and/or set to run (Stardock / Object Desktop wise).
Does anyone have any suggestions? I will try reinstalling, but thought I'd ask here first, as I'll have to hunt down the installer, etc.
I suspect that my recent experience trying the Alienware suite Darkstar may be involved. As many of you may be aware, trying this suite invovles adding a whole new application for applying suites. This bugged me, and I didn't much care for the style, so I uninstalled AlienGUIse soon after trying it. I did this, I believe, by dbl-clicking an uninstaller in the folder, not by using the Add/Remove programs cpl. After I did that, it reset my icons and Windowblind style to default, and I had to unload Windowblinds, reload it and change it again. I also had to apply new icons with Icon Packager. It is interesting that the Darkstar wba and Darkstar icons are still selectable in their associated programs.
My cursor remained unaffected until I restarted, when Cursor XP failed to initialize and no longer responds.
Suggestions welcome.
And, for what it's worth, I'd advise others to avoid the temptation of trying out the Alienware suites, along with I guess all the corporate ones. They seem to be designed for people who do not already use Object Desktop, and using both or uninstalling one apparently can cause some conflicts. It's been said elsewhere, but I'd also like to say that I think these suites' different components should be available separately, if the designers/owners really want people to use them. For example, I have no use for a Windows Media Player skin. Just my two cents.
