"Where's Israel?"

Two minutes ago from my co-worker a 98C Intelligence Analyst with almost 4 years in the field, she holds a TS/SCI clearance and is a Non-commissioned Officer:

"Where's Israel?"

Standards? Not here. Excuse me while I slam my head into a wall for a bit.

I hope there was some context to this that we're missing here. Like what direction from where she was standing at the time is israel, or some such. Otherwise, well it's scary.

It's amazing how pathetic some people's geography is. If you feel like testing your skills, you can visit my blog. Anyway, about 5 minutes ago, I just asked someone what the capital of Switzerland was and they said Austria (the capital is Berne).

Where is Israel, by the way?

Oh come on, I don't think the Swiss even know the capital of Switzerland, though Austria is a pretty pathetic answer.

I don't need help with Israel on the map. But do you mean to say Central America ISN'T a state? No wonder I failed that test.

I agree.  I would have said Geneva, but then I am terrible with Capitals.
