DesktopX Builder crashes

I'm using v 2.99[b].05 that I downloaded this morning off StarDock Central. When I try to load the builder, I get this error message.

The instruction at "0x100138a0" referenced memory at "0x000ac498". The memory could not be "written".


Click on OK to terminate the program
Click on CANCEL to debug the program

Is this a situation where I'll have to wait for another build? I've got DesktopX hiding my desktop icons right now, but I'd like to get them unhidden.

DesktopX version 3 is due out on the 15th - just 5 more days.

You might want to do the following:

Deselect any options in customization programs and widgets to "Load automatically at start-up", then unload all programs and return Windows to default theme including icons.

Go to any windows explorer window and go to "Tools>Folder Options>View tab" and select "Show hidden files and folders", then click "Apply". Now go to "C:\Documents and Settings\"user name"\Local Settings\Application Data\Stardock" folder (where "C" is the letter drive, and "user account" is the name on the account when you are logged in) and delete any DesktopX folder there. This will delete any cache that may cause issues.

Load SDCentral > go to "File>Restore Archive" and delete any DesktopX archives. Then uninstall DesktopX.

Reboot machine, then go to "C:\Program Files\Stardock\Object Desktop" (where "C" is the letter drive), and delete any DesktopX folder left > load SDCentral again > deselect "Show pre-released versions" at bottom of dialog.

Reinstall the latest released version (2.40.038).

I apologize for the long instructions, I just wanted to be thorough.

Sounds like I ought to just wait. That sounds about as complicated as installing Falcon4.

The problem I had with 2.4 is that my icons would move on their own and I've have to constantly move them back. This 2.99 version seems to have fixed that, so if it's only until Tuesday (which is my birthday, btw), then I suppose I can wait. I'm using ObjectDock for most of the stuff that used to be desktop icons (running my own customized MacOS Tiger theme).

Good luck - don't forget to save your theme, that ought to keep the settings correctly for you.

I tried all that... didn't work, unfortunately. Well, I can get an older version to work, but 2.99 still crashes.

I got the same problem. It went away for me when I unloaded WindowFX. However, someone else that also has the same problem had to unload WindowBlinds.

Try closing down your other programs running. Start with StarDock products. Then see. (ps. could you post back here if you get results? I'm curious.)
