Ok, this is a semi rant, but I am sure you will agree that it is something to rant about if you read through it..::laughs and sighs::..
I build single family homes for the military in the US (my narrow minded assumption of this site being exclusively US has been cured) needless to say some of the bases here are in remote locals and scatterd state wide. Well on this particular job I am in the middle of, my work van decides it is time to spring a water leak, on the jobsite (oh great!)
I look it over and determine it is the water pump, since the water seems to be pouring right out from underneath it! So I arrange a ride home with a couple fellow carpenters,(since there is no such thing as an auto parts store on a marine base) I purchase a water pump that evening and arrange for a ride to work the next morning. I replace the water pump and am putting water in the radiator when I see water spilling out of the same area, behind the water pump! Well Ok, it looks as if it may be the timing chain cover gasket, to replace the timing chain cover gasket is a bit more involved than just a simple water pump replacement, it requires a specialty tool (gear puller)that I just dont carry around with me.
I'll need to get permission from the Marine base to allow a tow truck on base to tow my work van home (which is pretty difficult these days concerning the current world situation! almost requires DNA sampling to get on base at all!). Permission granted, and the tow truck is aquired..
I pull practically the entire front of the engine apart to replace the bad gasket, the timing chain cover gasket. I begin to re-install everything and am almost finished when guess what happens? I bump into my thermos stat housing, effectively knocking it off the fender, where I had placed it, it falls to the pavement and shatters..Well..Ok..something else to deal with..back to the parts store..
Finally I get it all put back together, I begin to put water once again in the radiator, guess what?..it is STILL leaking water!
It seems there is a pin hole in the timing chain cover itself, it needs to be replaced..
So thats where it stands now, the part is on order, should have it by tomorrow.
Can only hope for success, what else could possible go wrong?!?!?!!
Your guess is as good as mine..Sheeeesh!
And so the saga continues,
Zero.
