How to get rid of "Recent [Documents]" when Right Click on Desktop?

I want to get rid of it!!!

Before I started using Stardock Softwares I got rid of the "Recent Doc" section in Start Menu, now after I apply most of the themes and when I right click, it's there again. Is there a way to get rid of it?

yup, right click on the tray icon...select edit desktop menu...you will see the rest

hmmm this sounds stupid but where's the tray icon? I have a tray tab in the object dock but when I right click there is no option about editing desktop menu...

Right-click on your Taskbar > Properties > Start Menu > Customize > Advanced > Recent Documents > untick "list my most recently opened documents"

I dont use object dock so I can only take a guesss. Somewhere in the object dock preferences I think you can show /hide windows taskbar. Allow the the taskbar to show. Your system tray is the bottom right where you have a bunch of small icons. One of those should be the right click icon. After you are done you can change the object dock setting back to the way it was. Im sure there is an easier way but Im not at my customized pc right now.

when I got to "advanced" the "recent doc" is already unchecked, I rechecked then unchecked it again but when I right click on the desktop the "recent doc" menu is still there...

Did you ever dowload and install the Stardock Program called "Right-click"?. THis is the program Night Train is referring to and is the only program I can think of that would cause the 'recent documents' to show up in the right click menu.

If yes, follow the instructions given by Night Train.

Good catch Aufisch. If your not using stardocks right click, are you running Desktop X? Pretty sure desktop X has an option to use the standard right click menu instead. If not, what programs are you running? Something changed your right click menu.

I have DesktopX, WindowBlinds, WindowFX, ObjectDock Plus, CursorXP & IconPackager. I tried to find the option to disable recent documents in DesktopX but no luck there...

If I understand you - you are getting a "recent documents" listing in the context menu when you right click the desktop?

Perhaps you could do the following:

Set everything to default > follow #3 above and select the option to show recent documents > click OK, then Apply on the main dialog > reboot machine > follow #3 above again and deselect the option to show recent documents > click OK, then Apply again > right-click desktop and verify that "recent documents" is not listed.

Now use the old process of elimination by loading one program at a time and testing the desktop right-click menu, making sure to run only one program at a time until you find the one that is changing your desktop right-click menu.

Then post here again with the information you have discovered if you don't see an option to change it in the program.

Someone like NT or aufisch will then have some valuable info and may be able to help you successfully apply the themes the way you want them to be.

Hope this helps in some way.

i tried to reset/reboot but it did not work
the software that changed the right click menu is DesktopX, when I unload it, i would have the default right click (refresh, properties, etc...)

any ideas? i did not find any settings about right click menus under DesktopX.

Does the "default" DX theme work without creating the "recent documents" option with right clicking desktop?

Also, are any of the options under the "Security" tab of "Configure DesktopX" dialog selected when you experience the problem?

i don't think there is a "default" DX Theme, and all the options under "Security" are unchecked.

What version DesktopX are you running?

I have version 2.40.035 and when I go to the "Theme" tab in the "Configure DesktopX" dialog and click "Load" in the "Theme" section there is a theme named "Default".

It loads up a Calendar, Clock, Mailbox, Google search box, and also displays Internet, Computer, and OS info in black text just above the taskbar. The Desktop right-click menu remains normal, with no added items.

Trying to narrow down the problem by starting basic.

Also, what theme(s) are you applying that are giving you the "recent documents" listing in your Desktop right-click menu? I am willing to download those themes to see if I run into the same issue if you would like.

ok, sorry about the "no default theme" comment, that was my fault.

I tried the default theme and the right click menu is the orginal windows menu. but whenever I load a skin that hides the desktop icons and the start menu, the right click menu will change. the themes I've tried are "crystal" "airclock" and "biomorph".

Okay, I see the issue.

These themes were created with an older version of DesktopX, which had that modified Desktop right-click menu incorporated into DesktopX, and appeared as soon as the user loaded the program. I don't think this can be changed without creating the theme in the current version of DesktopX, but I may be wrong.

The only options I found were:

Install IconX and in the "Configure DesktopX" dialog go to "IconX" tab > click "Configure IconX" button > "Options" tab, the user can choose to "Hide special desktop items" such as "My Computer", "Internet Explorer", "Recycle Bin", and a couple others.

This does nothing however for any program shortcuts that you want to hide, so may not be helpful (i.e., it does not hide my "Outlook" desktop icon).

Using this method does allow the "deselecting" of the "Hide desktop icons" option under the "Theme" tab in Configure DesktopX dialog, thus giving us at least a right-click menu which is reasonably close to the default one - but not quite.

The other option is to use the program "Right-Click" and build a right click menu to your own specifications. This is a nice program from what I have seen so far, though it may take a bit of modification to get the options you want, and the included skins do not match any of the 3 themes you like (you would have to make your own skin, or perhaps send a request to the author to create one to match).

A final option would be to request that the author update the theme to the new version of DesktopX, which would give you the default Desktop right-click menu (one that is very helpful in many ways).

I hope this helps in some way, or at least makes you feel a little better knowing that it is not an isolated issue with your computer.

thank you so much Corky O, i just thought it was my lack of knowledge about DX that i couldn't figure out how to disable this option. but now i know there's nothin i can do other than showing my desktop icons and i guess it's a solution for me since i don't really care if the icons are shown. thanks again for all your help take care.
