I need to get this up and running on my router, but I cant make head or tail of step 4...

Well, it comes with pictures, so... Anyhow, assuming you have a Belkin F5D7630 router, step five you quoted above translates as:

Put the ip address to forward the ports to in the LAN IP Address box.

Put the last part of the ip-address of the machine you are on in box on the first row under LAN ip-address.

If you don't know the ip-address, open up a DOS-box (hit win+r, type 'cmd' or 'command' in the window that opens) and enter the command 'ipconfig'. It will display your ip-address. The part you need to enter in the LAN ip-box is the part of the address after the last dot. So if your address turns out to be 192.168.1.100, enter 100.

Select the protocol type using the Protocol Type drop down box. If you are unsure of this just select both. If both doesn't exist use two lines with duplicate settings. The only difference would be that one of the protocol types has TCP specified, and the other has UDP specified.

Select the protocol type in the select box under "protocol type" on the same row as where you entered the ip-address. The choice of TCP or UDP depends on what app your are trying to forward ports for. See the documentation of said app for that.

Enter the ports you would like to forward into the LAN Port box. These ports can be entered in a list form 454,456,457 or in a range 500-600 form. They may also be entered in a combination of the two like 454,456,500-600.

Again, on the same row as the other settings, enter the port numbers you need to forward. If it's a single port, just enter that port nume (like: 80). If it's a range, enter both numbers with a hyphen in between (like: 6881-6889, the common BitTorrent range).

Generally the Public Port entry will be identical to the Lan Port entry. So just go ahead and copy the port list you have there. Put a check in the Enabled box, and then click Set.

Just copy the port range you entered under "lan port" to the "public port" box. Then check the "enable" box on the same row and hit "set".

Done.
