Global poll slams Bush leadership

More than half of people surveyed in a BBC World Service poll say the re-election of US President George W Bush has made the world more dangerous.

Only three countries - India, Poland and the Philippines - out of 21 polled believed the world was now safer.

The survey found that 47% now viewed US influence in the world as largely negative and such unfavourable feelings extended towards Americans as a whole.

None of the countries polled supported contributing their troops to Iraq.

"Negative feelings about Bush are high and are generalising to the American people who re-elected him."

On average across all countries, 58% of people - and 16 out of 21 countries polled - said they believed Mr Bush's re-election to the White House made the world more dangerous.

Thanks Donna G. I'm not here to bang my head against a wall and make the same post over and over. I said my piece with one post. Believe it, don't believe it, pick it apart, do what you wish. I stand by my position, but the more I hear spewed about it, the stronger my convictions get.

Just my opinion, too ...but it'd be nice if this thread could be moved over to JoeUser, and continued there ~because it is interesting to see peoples opinions on this topic.

This site is about customizing ...not politics and debate of same.

Left on this site, it'll just drive a wedge between folk's who have a common interest ~but differing political leanings..

I dont care about the polls. We have'nt had an attack since Bush has been in office. Let's put the blame where it belongs...Clinton. He cut our defenses while teaching our children it's okay to committ adultry in Church on Sunday. The plan for the 9/11 attack began on Clintons watch. How easy Clinton made it for the terrorists. They just had to look at the debacle he created called Black Hawk Down, which is just one of his many claims to fame. And in all my years I have never recieved money back from the Government besides my tax returns except on Bush's watch. Bush is not perfect. He could spend alot more thought on Global Warming and such, but at least he is not like all the moaners who wan't to run at the first sigh of hardship. I will alway's support the one with a Backbone. Go Bush!

I'm not very informed in all of these matters. I know that I wake up with the freedom to drink coffee, go to work, have some leisure, read the Bible, and give my opinions publically.

I'm thankful for these things.

Nations will rise and fall, folks. It's the way of the world. Anyone that thinks this nation or any nation is invincible or infallible has not sudied history. I think it's important to positively flavor our world whatever the circumstance, and always be thankful for what we have.

I was going to reply more in depth to some of the comments made here regarding what I've said...but I can see it's pointless.

I stand by what I've said...agree with it...or don't...

Michael Moore...Michael Moore...geeeezus...how long will we have to hear about this...nope, sorry...didn't see the film...had no need to...am very capable of thinking for myself, forming my own thoughts and coming to my own conclusions. I have eyes that see very clearly what's happening in the world. That of course comes from not watching our...(and I use the terms very loosely) all informing, completely truthful news.

I know discussing stuff like this can be very difficult so I'm going to try to keep this simple. Everyone of course has an opinion. It seems to me that anyone responsible for "The final say" so to speak whether in the office of the president of ToysRUs or the U.S. set in the hot seat when it's time to make decisions. I own a company that I founded 24yrs ago. It doesn't matter how much time or effort I expend on a decision trying to do the best or right thing, it is going to be viewed by some as the right choice and some as the wrong choice.
It's really easy to win wars, the super bowl, the ryder cup, become a millionaire, etc... while I'm sitting in my living room. I don't care who gets voted in as president of whatever, he's gonna be wrong by some and right by some.

I DO know this though, here in the U.S. you can complain about this stuff without going to jail or being executed. If a jet flies over your head it's most likely just landing somewhere. If your hungry, you can probably find something to eat. I know the country and it's president doesn't fit all, but DANG, things really don't run too bad around here!

Good point, WebGizmos. People place far too much weight on Moore simply because he had the nerve to publicize his views. If more people in his corner were half as brave to speak up, there would be a lot less of this kind of rallying and labelling. Moore isn't exactly Karl Marx here, and airing a gripe with the government doesn't make you a communist or unpatriotic.

Blaming every left winged train of thought on Moore would be like blaming every right winged statement on Rush Limbaugh. If people always looked to one person, and one person only for their political input, they'd never have opinions of their own. This applies to either side.

As an aside, I was granted the pleasure of listening to Rush while in the states for the holidays. He struck me as a medieval blowhard.

Thanks for the figures thethimble. The irreperable damage there is something that seems to get swept under the carpet whenever justifying this war comes up.

Nice to know I'm not welcome in your country, Stephen. Though Canada does provide the States with a good deal of energy and raw materials, there seems to be a lot of hard feelings since we didn't join in the war. No regrets here, though. We still have all our budget in place. Our citizens don't need nuclear deterrence to feel safe, and most of our population is enjoying a peaceful existance rather than wondering when their military relatives are coming home. I can understand the hard feelings, but as long as the US pays off their deficit, I don't mind at all.

Did it ever occur to you that if we collected on money owed to us by other nations and ceased overseas aid for a year or two we would have no national debt. Savor that for a minute or two.....

It's comments like this that get me going. Think before you speak (write) next time. Allow me to help you out with a bit of geography. The United States and Canada share a huge chunk of land referred to as North America; not to mention a common border. Every nation understands that if they mess with Canada then they mess with the United States. Therein lies your deterrence......be grateful instead of smug.

It's not an easy thing wondering if a loved one will come home. I know.....my father is a retired Navy Captain and I have experienced that feeling on more than one occasion. That being said, I am proud of his service to our great nation and other nations we've helped in their time of need. You see, therein lies one of the fundamental differences between Canadians and Americans. We Americans are not content to sit on our asses when we see a country whose citizens are beaten, tortured and murdered by a ruthless leader who maintains his control with an iron fist

On the contrary, we feel a moral imperative to rid the world of people such as Saddam Hussein so that people can live in freedom. We feel so strongly about things like rape, torture, murder and ethnic cleansing that we are willing to spend billions of dollars and risk the lives of those we love to irradicate it. Oh yeah....we're also willing to spend billions more to rebuild countries after we've freed them from oppression. I sleep well knowing that we look beyond our borders when it comes to such blatant human rights violations. Can you as a Canadian say the same thing? Shame on you. Oh.....and if you're not satisfied with my links, feel free to speak with any Iraqi citizen who fled their country prior to the war. I live in San Diego and we have a large American-Iraqi population the overwhelming majority of who support the war efforts in Iraq.

Nope.

I don't agree with how Bush handled this Iraq ingagement. Things could have been handled far better and should have been given history lessons of war and the peace that follows it.

I personally, hoped Bush and his team knew this.
Anyway, I did vote for Bush as many have done. Not that I like what he did or how he went about it, but Kerry just was not up for the job so there was not much of a choice in the matter.

No matter what the world thinks, Kerry would not have made things better at all. He could not have fixed Bush's mistakes but maybe Bush can... I hope.
