Bootskin

Bootskin doesnt recognise the files on wincustomize.com !?

I downloaded boot skin as soon as i found it cos i was curious about changing the default windows xp boot screen. but when i loaded it up, the only recognised format of bootskins is a .bootskin file, yet all the ones on wincustomize come in a zip file with 2 bmp's and a .ini file. so do u have to convert them to .bootskins or wot? please help

This a problem some people have after installing SP2 for XP. The file extensions for skinning apps get changed to zip when downloaded. Simply rename the file extension to bootskin. (Example; thisskin.zip, gets renamed to thisskin.bootskin) Then all you need to do is double click the file, and it will auto install.

i dont understand you.
how do you change the file extention? and of which files in the zip folder? i have two bmp's and 1 .ini

sorry if im stupid. lol

Step 1. File extension must not be hidden. If you're unsure what that means, open Control Panel > Folder Options > View tab > "Hide extensions for known file types" should be un-checked.

Step 2. Right-click the file and select Rename. Change the zip part of the name to the proper extenion. (Example; skin1.zip = skin1.bootskin)
If you get a warning about changing the extention, click OK

Step 3. Double-click the renamed file.

Yeah thanx a lot. its done and now my bootskins are workin perfectamundo!
I figured out how to do the extention thing during the hour or so it took u to reply but nice to know u bothered with replying anyways.

I dunno if you can help with this or not but i also have a problem with my pc resetting itself sometimes. it might do it 2 or 3 times a day or sometimes not at all. have any ideas what might cause this?

By resetting, do you mean your computer reboots for no obvious reason? I had that problem before, and I never figured out what was causing it. (no doubt it was something I caused by 'tweaking' things)
I had to do the ole format, and re-install the OS to clear it up.
Now if we could get yrag to notice this thread, he might have a clue or two, as he is very sharp on the working of these beasts.

I do not obtain to install bootskin I could help me? When I install Windows XP I do not enter I give some error and I have that to configure for the security way!
I never made update of windows XP! My Windows is the professional XP!

There is no trick to it. If Bootskin worked on your system with SP1, then it should also work with SP2.

Just make sure you set the Bootskin to default before upgrading with SP2.

If you just newly installed Bootskin onto your SP2 system (without having it ran on a SP1 system) and it is not working, then the more likely reason for the program not to work is a 'tweaked' (by your computer manufacturer) BIOS. In that case try some of the other versions of Bootskin provided by Stardock https://www.stardock.com/products/bootskin/. One of them might work.

To Freeman88, You have a bug or virus. I do not remember if it is the melissa or what. Go to Microsoft and look for the virus info. They have a remover.
