The Von Bondies played at the Hi Fi on Friday to a packed crowd promoting their third album “Pawn Shoppe Heart”. The band Jason, Marcie, Carrie and Don have an awesome presence on stage with Jason looking very much the rock n roll front man with long shaggy hair t-shirt and jeans. His fellow band mates however looked far cuter and almost out of place if it wasn’t for their ooze of style and absolute look of being at home on stage. Marcie looked cute as hell in a white shirt with poker dots and a serious attitude on her face, but as we were informed it was here 21st birthday and you could tell she was happy as ever to be playing and Carrie rocked out on the bass. The Von Bondies click. Their music is full of rhythm and guitars and uses Jason’s lead vocals to accent the melody. You may recognise them for “C’mon, C’mon”, Pawn Shoppe Heart’s first single, and “no regrets” two very different sounds the first being upbeat rock and roll and the former being more of a blues based sound. But Jason shared his vocals with the ladies and “not that social” proved that the Von Bondies are not a one man band. The Von Bondies are all about loud guitars and a solid beat. They look comfortable and confident on stage and offer a great live gig with and excellent vibe. They were supported by Sydney band The Cops who are promoting their new album “Stomp on Trip Wires” who also put on an excellent show. The 5 piece are making a name for themselves because they sound so good on stage, “Dirty Little Rebel” is the kind of addictive rock n roll that The Cops are spreading. Cow bell and all The Cops make for a great act that live up to the hype that surrounds any new Aussie rock band these days, these guys may not save us but they will entertain us.
