I'm trying out the freeware OD thing and so far it's great except for one thing. When I autohide the dock, the animation is really choppy when I first mouseover it, after the first time, it's read into RAM and animates smoothly. However, when I turn off autohide, the animation is smooth everytime I first mouseover it. This seems strange because doesn't autohide just move the dock's screen position beyond the viewable screen boundaries so you can't see it? It's not like the dock really "disappears" and has to be reread. So, why the difference in animation performance? I wish there was a way that it'd work more smoothly.
I read in the newsgroup about the RAMDISK idea and that kinda helps but after the computer stays on for a few days, the dock animation gets really slow and choppy and requires a reboot.
