Help with start menu, shutdown/logoff, etc

Alright, heres my problem: Something is wrong with my start menu. It doesn't show the user picture and I can't click up there to change it. I checked my WindowBlinds settings and Show User Icon is ed, so I don't know what the problem is. The text is off balanced to the left(because there is no picture.) Something is wrong with the shutdown dialog too. I click shutdown and a little window pops up like in Windows 2000 where I can Restart, Shutdown, etc. from a down menu. And the odd thing is, is it says Windows XP. It seems like it happened after I installed my HP DeskJet 5550. Thanks

are you running on a domain network? if so what you describe is perfectly normal.

I think that's the classic-style logon setting.
If you go into Control Panel>User Accounts, and 'change the way users log on and off', make sure the box with 'use welcome screen' is enabled.
I don't if that's also related to the usericon problem, but I think it'll certainly fix the shutdown dialog one.

Alright, I go there and this is what it says:

A recently installed program has disabled the Welcome screen and Fast User Switching. To restore these features, you must unistall the program. The following file name might help you identify the program that made the change: C:\WINDOWS\System32\awgina.dll

I then found the file and checked to see what program it was from. For the description it says pcAnywhere Authentication Interface. For the Company it says Symantec Corporation. I've had Norton Antivirus installed for a long time, long before this problem occurred.

Why is the odd? What operating system are you using? Did you install your printer with the proper drivers for your operating system?

I have Windows XP. Well, now that I know what I know, it isn't. I just thought it was weird it said Windows XP, but acted like Windows 2000. But now that I know you can change that, it isn't odd at all. I'm not sure if the proper drivers were installed, it was actually my brother's printer that installed on my computer. But I checked the file and it says its related to Symantec, so I don't know whats going on. Thanks.

This happened to be twice, I can't remember exactly what I did to get rid of it. You might try unloading WB's and restarting.

It seems that the file is related to a program called PCAnywhere. I have Norton AV installed and I don't have that file. It seems that this program can corrupt your fast user switching ability. I found the following link on the subject. It might help.

There is also some other discussion that mention that the file could be changed into a worm. I would run Spybot, and try uninstalling PCAnywhere if you don't use it. I don't know if you use it or how you got it. Good Luck.

Thats what happens when you have a network (i think) Thats what my computer has always done and i have a thinkpad with XP professional
if there is any to change it please tell me

latin4567 - it's possible to have a network and retain fast user switching/user pics etc, but it's not possible to join a domain and keep them. Since most corporate networks will use domains, you'll lose these aspects on most proffesional LANs.

Ah, thanks. Now I remember. Its not part of Norton. It is made by Symantec, but it is not for Norton. I installed once when I was trying something and I just didn't bother to uninstall it. I'll try it out.
