The main thing would be to click on the CPU tab at the top where the real time stat's are displayed.

It *will* show you exactly what is actively hitting the CPU, from highest to lowest moving down the list.

Once you know that, you can highlight the specific task, and in the lower right hand display pain you can click the different tabs to find out more info on that specific task. Also "svchost" info for exactly what tasks is running under svchost is viewable.

If you fear a Trojan, you can look to the top right hand pain and click the "Connections" tab and then click "remote" to see what IP addresses you've a connection with if any and local to see what is actually accessing the Internet (or network)..

Ah dabe, just an observation that the "expert" who said NAV was "better" than Kaspersky really was no expert at all, at least not much up on AV's and security stuff. I don't use KAV myself but if you still have it available and were previously using it without any issues, I'd suggest dumping NAV and reinstalling KAV.

Also, recently there have been an increasing number of reports of issues with some Symantec products, Live Update, etc. Not by the usual critics and moaners I should note: even some longtime Symantec users/adherents are jumping ship.

But you may also have something else going on as well, so let us know how it goes.

It sounds to me like you have more than one AV program installed. That could be a big problem. Zone Alarm and Norton also have known conflicts. More than one firewall could also cause problems. Once you limit yourself to one firewall and one AV program, you might see a big diffence. AV programs are constantly running in the background. And if you have two competing, and conflicting with each other, this would describe your problem. If you must have Zone Alarm over Norton Personal Firewall or Norton Internet professional, then I would get rid of Norton AV.(Although Norton is the best)

I would first run Spybot search and destroy to see if you have spyware. That would definitely cause the problem. Spybot is free.I would shut down all AV programs before installing Spybot. AV programs are known to cause problems with installations. Then, I would install and run Spybot. If your system is clean of spyware, then I would uninstall all your firewalls and AV programs. You have too many running that do the same thing.

Once you uninstall all the firewalls and AV programs, I would clean the registry of their traces. Then I would delete their directories.

This should fix your problem. Then, I would install one virus program. After reboot see if you develop lag again. This will help you to troubleshoot where the conflict is coming from. Remember... ONE AV and ONE firewall. Good Luck.

I think the problem is you have your computer on. turn it off and you should notice a remarkable less amount of cpu and memory usage.
