If you click on the little postage stamp thingy in the bottom right corner, it brings up a dialog box that will allow you to put in the web address of an emoticon or gif image.
http://www.addis-welt.de/smilie/smilie/tiercat/nmet.gif if you click on this link it will show you a emoticon kitty. copy the address of the kitty into the dialog box and you should get a kitty
That's one way....another way is to go to this site http://www.1000smilies.com/ and just copy and paste the address next to the emoticon you want to use. Doing this, you don't have to use the postage stamp thingy.
All the postage stamp thingy really does is put (img) (/img) but using the [ ] brackets instead of ( ) around the address of the emoticon so it will show up.
