I am currently using Lantana theme and the task bar has a tiny gap on the left hand side where the start button is? Is this normal? If so what's the purpose of it? It looks really silly.

Could you please provide a screenshot, along with your version of Windows (run winver.exe), your version of Start10 or Start11and your installed version of Windowblinds, please?
I am running Windows version 23H2, my version of WindowsBlinds is Windows 11 Core 23H2 (22621.ni_release.220506-1250)WindowBlinds 11.02 (017 x64 - Windows 11 Edition) - 64 bit OS. And my Start11 version is 2.03

Yes, that was designed in by that theme designer. And, I don't think its silly at all. If you review the theme preview you should have notice it.

Yeah I did notice it, but I want to fix it as it doesn't serve a purpose that's why I think it's silly, especially considering majority of other themes have no gap.
Yes you can fix that by editing it the main graphic for horizontal taskbar. Need Skinstudios and A graphics editor to do it.
