Here in California, we're just waking up to the news. Excellent news, though. I'm thoroughly surprised, and relieved, that he was taken without a fight. I just hope this means our troops can start coming home sooner rather than later.

A trial in Iraq per the Iraqi justice system seems most logical, for a start. Then a war crimes trial in the Hague. Barring that pesky public beheading in Iraq, of course.

It is a good thing to see they got him, now I wonder how long it will be before Bush shows up in Iraq wearing dirty Fatigues a Web Belt with Grenades, Canteen and 45 strapped to his hip with some stupid Banner over his head claiming "WE Got him" as if he had to wash the dirt from his hands face and hair pulling Saddam out that spider hole.

Saddam should be in court by the end of next week I would think. Seems the Iraq Counsel wants him on trial asap, now to see if the US allows it...

Are you serious? Why? Simple...because the job's not done. After Hitler was found dead how long were our boys in Germany? Almost 60 years and counting. You can just about bet that there will be a permanent ocupation...as there should be.

I don't have a lot of confendence in the Iraqies to make the (what seems like) the sensible decision with Saddam. Based on the way a lot of them are acting they are just as likely to let him go...

Because the 'peace' is far from being won....and there'll be plenty of bodybags to come before things are settled in the region, if at all.

Don't take it out of context. Maybe I used the wrong word. We will be there permanently, like we have been in Germany and Japan and other nations after wars and conflicts. Use whatever word(s) you wish to describe it.

Besides by definition that would be called a "Colony"...

541 deaths in a war that was almost universally predicted to have a death-toll in the thousands. 456 American, 53 UK and 32 from the other nations that are supporting the war. Not to in any lessen the tragic impact of these deaths on the families of those who gave their lives in the war against terrorism, but had anyone predicted that Iraq would be liberated in so short a time and Saddam captured with this loss of life, they would have been regarded as optimistic.

The Iraqi Foreign Minister Hoshyar Zebari predicted the capture of Saddam, the original topic under discussion would have "a demoralizing effect" and would lessen the attacks.

Russian Foreign Minister Igor Ivanov said "Moscow believes that Saddam Hussein's arrest will help strengthen security in Iraq."

French President Jacques Chirac (not a Bush supporter in the past, to put it mildly) said, speaking of the arrest, "It is a major event that would strongly contribute to the democratization and stabilization of Iraq."

None of these world leaders, and I quote from the link in my post above, seems to feel as pessimistic as posters on this board. Presumably the heads of state have some understanding of the situation in Iraq.

Oh, I left out German Chancellor Gerhard Schroeder. The Chancellor wrote the following message to President Bush "With great happiness I have learnt of the capture of Saddam Hussein. I congratulate you on the successful mission."

Now that we've got the guy that the Republican party has been homicidally obsessed with for the past decade, can we now shift our focus back to getting the man who killed 4000+ of our people?

I think before this is over you will hear some grumbling from Kuwait, who wants very much to get their hands on Hussein and a few others. It wouldn't surprise me after he is convicted in Iraq if he doesn't spend some time in Kuwait, and then be multi-laterally drawn and quartered.

Overall a good day. It's sign that getting people like Hussein, and Bin Laden, is infinitely possible, if not probable. Just because they are rich and powerful doesn't mean this guys aren't total sh*theads. You can imagine how much more annoying they are while in hiding and paranoid. Eventually they will piss off someone to whom a multi-million dollar reward looks very tempting.

People act like catching Bin Laden is something that will be impossible, but consider the probability of someone you know turning you over to authorities for for 30+ million dollars. Then add to that the kind of human waste these people hang out with. If he isn't dead Osama will eventually follow, though it may be a long, long time coming.

P.S. Anyone want to lay odds that the gals in the EU throw a fit and say he has to be turned over to the International War Crimes Debacle, ur, um, Tribunal? Granted If we send him there he could be sentenced to spend the rest of his life in off-the-rack clothing and 2 star hotels *shudder*.
