I'm on my way to the Red Cross to donate blood. I donate four to five times a year and I always feel special when I do. Usually I take my daughter Lauren (age 9) with me. She keeps me company and always asks when she will be old enough to give.
It gives me a good feeling to do this. I always joke about how giving blood and getting my hair cut is the easy way to lose weight. (Doesn't seem to work for me in case you are interested.) I just want to encourage everyone to find something that will give them this same feeling. Share it with your kids. Especially at this time of year.
Many people can't do the "blood thing." This is by no means the only charity out there. Its cold in Michigan (except Livonia, sunny and 72 as always) and there are many coat drives. Donating an old but still wearable garment is certainly worthwhile. On Christmas Day the secular organization that I belong to drives the Meals On Wheels cars so the Christian drivers have time with their families. There are a multitude of other options.
Giving is always good (IMHO) but at this time of the year it is always specia. And if you involve your family you create traditions and memories that last forever.
Got to go, don't want the giving to start without me!
