SkinStudio - Feature Request

Not sure if this is the right place to post this, but here goes

When I click EDIT in SS, it always starts a new instance of PaintShopPro even if one is already running. I imagine this would be true of any other ImageEditor. For some reason, copy and paste won't work between two instances of PSP. Also, PSP8 has a bit longer load time than 7. So I find myself still using version 7 when working on a skin. I can leave PSP open and jump from image to image in the browser, but I usually keep a seperate directory for so-called "work" images: Templates, Layered PSP files, etc. So I still end up navigating a bit to open and save and edit.
Ok enough rambling

to the point... None of this is the end of the world, but it does seems like it could be simpler and a practical feature if there were an option to set the EDIT button in SS to open images within the already running instance of your default image editor.
I know nothing of how technically difficult it may or may not be , but does anyone else agree? Anyway, I've, been downloading every update to SS as they happen and it just continues to get better.

Never use the Edit feature. I always open PSP and browse the folder, then open stuff from there.

There have been threads about this before. People say that if you put shell edit and/or shell open at the top of the image editors list (in preferences), then you wont keep getting multiple instances of your image editor opening up all over the place. However this has never worked for me. I do exactly what Fuzzy says. I open up PSP 7 and then retrieve the images from the "open" button . And you are right , the "copy" feature doesnt work well (if at all) between instances of the prog. But, I have found that the "print screen" option works very well, so if I need to I "take a snapshot" of what I want, then edit it .

You might try making PSP the default editor for .bmp, then setting shell edit at the top of the list as Crissy suggested.
I use PS and it works for that but I'm not sure if it will do the same for PSP.

Is there a setting in PSP wher eyou can tell it to copy/capture to the system clip board?
HyperSnap has this option so you can just paste into a graphics app and such, dunno about
PSP though?

No, there is not. But "printscreen" as I said does the same thing, and it works well between instances of PSP. Its just a little bit of a pain, because you're capturing everything on your desktop, then you have to crop the image to get the portion you want.

Placing Shell Open in the top of the list works just fine for me. Don't know why it doesn't work for you Crissy, unless PSP isn't set to be your default editor.

Also PSP does have a Screen Capture feature. It under File, Import, Screen Capture, in PSP 8. I don't have 7 installed right now, but I believe it in the same place.

yes Koasati, it is in the same place on both. I place the Capture in my toolbar on both versions in fact. I use it lot, but not much when working a skin. As crissy said, "bit of a pain", sometimes I just want to copy over a layer from another image. Like fuzzy and and crissy said, I am learning to just keep the browser handy. I guess it's more of a work habit thing and learning to work a certain way. I havent tried setting BMP's to default to PSP on my system tho. Not sure I could live with that myself.

Ingui .... try this....... Click the arrow to the side of Edit, and choose 'Customize' and Add whichever PSP.exe you want to use with SS. Put that at the top of the list. Maybe that will solve your problem.

Koasati, thanx, but that is how I am set up. Tho I did it again. I know sometimes with Windows, you can force something to APPLY. Like I said, not the end of the world, and it's easy enough to "retrain" myself. Thanx Wiz

Make sure your file associations in psp are checked. I just checked all of them and it then worked for me.

Thanks, bordfryr. I wondered if that would work in PSP (it does in PS), but I think he's trying to find a way to make it work without associating bmp's with PSP.
