I'm not sure what I did, but I did it very well...

About a week ago, I was having a problem with Desktop X hanging up during the smart startup. I could not get to the Task Manager to cancel the process, so I chose to reboot in Safe Mode (which it is not). I was trying to delete Desktop X so I could get past the smart startup screen, and got rid of something I should not have. Anyway, I have a mess on my hands, and my brand new DSL line is not working as it should. I would like to hear that I may not have to completely unload the whole Object Desktop and every thing with it to start over and reinstall everything again. But if I need to, I will because Dell and I still own this baby and I miss my Desktop X

So enough whinning: What do I need to unload and uninstall? What is MCP Core and did I do an awful thing to get rid of it during my big delete episode?

I would appreciate any advice/help/hankies offered politely (not that I have ever seen any other kind of advice/help/hankies offered here.

Embarrasing is more like it. I know better. Wish someone had been around for me to blame it on-other than me.

I just realized I posted this on the general threads, not on the help area. If someone would tell me how, I will move it over there.

You can try two things... in the 'run' command type 'ipconfig/release' and then type 'ipconfig/renew'. That may give you your DSL back. The second option is to try a 'restore' prior to your un-install of DX.

MCPcore.dll shouldn't be a problem I do not load it half the time...

Try Yrag's suggestion and if that doesn't work follow up with the stuff below and other possible suggestion others might have.

Hope it turns out simple

Do the IP release on your system and if that doesn't work then shut down your computer and unplug your DSL router ( also the gateway/router/firewall if you have one ).

Plug the DSL router in again and wait until it shows you have a Data connection and that your DSL link is active. Then if you have a hardware gateway/router/firewall between the DSL router and your computer plug that back in. Then boot up and your PC should be fine as far as having the link set correctly hardware wise. From that point it is all pretty much configuration on the OS side. Make sure your TCP/IP settings under your Network connections is set for DHCP enabled and that your system gets the DNS server information from the service provider/DSL.

Software Firewall, make sure it isn't blocking or filtering something that needs access to the net or allowing something access it shouldn't allow.

DesktopX, once it is unloaded you can uninstall it and then reinstall it and it should be fine.

Thanks for all your help. I will try your suggestions and will be back soon. A lot wiser but still embarrassed over being so silly. If I had an icon that was blushing I would insert it here.
