Can't group Firefox?

Hello. I am testing out for possible purchase.

Is this supposed to work with firefox? Because it doesn't for me.
I can get Explorer folders to group but not as smooth as before... something odd happened after a recent update.

I am using Win Server 2019 v1809 build 17763.2366

Hello,
Sorry to hear you are having issues. Just a pointer, make sure you are grabbing at the titlebar not at Firefox tab to group Firefox with other apps.

Yea. Grabbing it at the title bar. I will try a reboot. See if that fixes it.

OK. Reboot didn't help. But I have some new info.

If I press CTRL while opening a new Browser Window, it DOES create a Tab and opens the new Window in a tab.

When I do that a "tab above the tabs" appears that is not normally there on Browser windows.

If I move the tabbed window back to desktop the tab disappears and I lose the ability to Groupy the Window.
IS that normal?

Hello,

While you have Groupy tabs on, click on the 3 dot menu button-> activate the "Always show tabs for this type of window" option. This will make that application have tab on it all the time.

Is there a way to force that for all windows?

Hmm, I found an option that says "Force add new tab support for all windows".. doesn't seem to work for some windows, but I will keep an eye out for other apps and see how they go.

OK so, by pinning a libreoffice document, and holding CTRL and clicking the Taskbar icon, it will Fail to create a new window with a Tab UNLESS there's already an existing window with a tab present. If there IS aleady an existing window with a tab...say from Explorer, then I can press CTRL when I click the taskbar icon, and it will "add" that window to the already tabbed explorer window.

Unfortunately, if I use the 3 dots, and select always show tabs for this type of window and then close and reopen without another window on the desktop, it fails to add the tab.

It appears that it will only add the tabs for some windows if there's already a tabbed window present that allows tabs. Otherwise it won't make them appear.

Perhaps there is a button / keypress that I can use to "force add" a tab onto the currently active window?

I have "always show tabs for this type of window" selected but spawning new LibreOffice Windows doesn't automatically create a tabbed window. And there doesn't seem to be a way to add tabs once the window is opened.

The only way I can make a tab appear is to spawn a blank document by holding CTRL when launching the app... but new doc windows inside the app don't form a tab when they open / opening old docs etc.

I think this is pretty important. Without that basic functionality, I don't think it will be very usable.

If there was some way to activate the tab on the current active window so it could appear, then I could work around the problem... but I don't see anyway to do that.

So more than 30 days after I installed the demo.
and here's why I decided not to buy "Groupy" at this time:

First, I think it is a pretty handy idea to improve Windows.
The downside is that it creates its own horizontal bar that takes up valuable vertical space in my windows.
Already things like Filezilla and many other programs use the top edge of the window and since most screens are much wider than they are taller, it limits the amount of usable screen space even more. Would I want Groupy to be a "Vertical" Bar... no.

I definitely prefer a horizontal bar, but I think groupy should have options to try to use either the title bar area or the menu bar area if it is available as well as a 3rd option for "groupy use its own bar".

Another option that might be useful would be "Hide Groupy's Tabs" when not hovered over.  That might be acceptable as well to relieve the problem of losing vertical space in the window.

Another issue that I came across was just bugs with the software that I use... such as the bug posted in this particular topic.

Also, I like to move tabs out of firefox onto different screens. And (almost) every time I try to move a tab out of one monitor screen to a new location (to create a new firefox window with that tab) instead of the tab docking in the monitor where I dropped it, it would drop into a groupy window.

So, It got to the point where too many apps just don't quite mesh with the functionality as I hoped.

I think I would like to try again when some of those issues have been improved!
