Personally speaking, when those of us who will create the new workforce and new jobs in this country (USA) get back on our feet, I would not allow those companies that turned their backs on us back in this country, to return here and do business. Nor would I utilize any services or purchase any product from them with my hard earned money. |
When the US, Germany, the UK and Japan get their currency values in line with the rest of the world perhaps the trend will turn.
As it stands now, it costs A$2.00 to buy US$1.00, A$3.00 for the UK Pound, A$2.5 for the Euro, and at the moment the JPY/A$ is moving in our favour but it could change overnight.
Australia is not a "poor" country and has far better living conditions than most of the population realise.
However, while the average income is "officialy" around A$70,000 .... in reality it is around A$50,000 for a normal single income family.
From our business perspective, we deal with Japan, Italy and France, the UK is not an option and anything US we must be very sure we can sell before we order.
Example, a US$525.00 (retail) item in our business is not going to even make it into our stock .... it converts to more than most of our customer base earn in one week, and we are the Australia Distributors for the company producing it!
Patrick is right on the mark, it comes down to what people can actually afford to pay and that's the bottom line.
As for not dealing with all of these "Evil Companies" who have been forced off-shore .... or "banning" them, interesting thought White Moth but never going to happen!
And most of the operations concerned go off-shore because the domestic work force demand too much for too little effort ... that is a general observation BTW, not targeted at any specific individual.

Over time I have noticed one very "Western Worker" mindset that is central to the entire problem.
Employee going for salary increase .... "Pay me more and I'll work harder." .... employer reaction .. "Show me some results and we will pay you more".
It is that simple.
