Hi there, I've been using the free trial of Groupy, I'm quite long time fences user.
I'll get Fences out the way first, perhaps I should make a new thread for talking about Fences in the adequate forum but I'll just do it here.
Why not implement the same idea of Groupy in Fences? I have multiple fences, and it get's to a point where it looked crowded and cluttered. I know you can hide them and have them auto scroll but tabs would be nice touch of an addition. Having the ability to put tabs on Fences would reduce the amount of fences needed from several to a few.
Back to Groupy. I'm considering purchasing it. Although I do have one bug bear with it. The taskbar icons. Sometimes I have loads of applications open and even with Groupy, I don't Group them all. But when I do group dissimilar programs together, then sometimes I get lost looking for Grouped Application I'm looking for. As when two dissimilar applications are grouped the inactive applications' Icon disappears from the task bar. Then finding it again can be a challenge, clicking through all the applications.
The first part of my suggestion is, get Groupy to make a hybrid multi Icon for grouped applications using the icons of the actual applications. Think of it like a grid with four squares that contain the icons for each grouped application, which primarily give indication of which icon on the taskbar contains grouped applications in the first place. Secondary, it would show, from left to right the first four applications grouped.
This isn't perfect for a couple of reasons but I would still like to see at least the option for it implemented.
The reasons are, when there are only 2 or 3 icons grouped, perhaps it will look ugly because up until four applications are grouped, you'd end up with a quad square grid, with either 1 or 2 spaces empty showing the taskbar. (As it's your software you could use Groupys' icon to fill the blank spaces up until more applications are grouped)
Also normally when there are two or more instances of a same application running , well at least on Windows 11, when you hover over the icon, Windows shows preview panes above the Icons & will show several panes if the application such as Cmd or Explorer is opened multiple times. With Groupy, it only shows one preview pane. That would also be a nice indicator for the program to have.
Oh and I nearly forgot about this one, I don't like that on the taskbar, the icon to click on to get the window grouped applications, jumps all over the place depending on which grouped application is active. I wouldn't say it's user Friendly that way.
I would suggest, rather than the grouped applications, floating on top of icon, of whichever is active program icon. That Groupy just forges its's own icon that doesn't jump all over the place depending on which application is active. I don't think that's unfeasible as the active state of an open application that is pinned to the taskbar when another tabbed application is selected. The active state of the pinned Icon goes innert anyway like that pinned program isn't open at all.
And lastly, I wasn't going to suggest this because I just thought of it now while writing this up. It would be a sweet touch. If Groupy could always float it's Icon (Not really it's Icon but the Icon the app it's representing, I hope you know what I mean), to the furthest most left of the task bar or even the right hand side (Which would always be furthest most on the right, even if you open a new unpinned to the taskbar application, that it would open to the left of Groupy and Groupy would still the furthest most right aligned icon.
I really like the software, unfortunately the way I am with loads of things open, without some of that stuff addressed, I'd end up not using Groupy as much as I could, because I would loose interest in hunting for the Grouped applications. And I think I would slow grind to a halt in using Groupy which is a shame because it is awesome.
Thanks
Kind Regards
Angelo
