I was running Fences 3.0 on Windows 10 when Fences 3.13 (I believe) was downloaded about one month ago. I wanted to clean up the installation folder, so I uninstalled Fences so I could start fresh. Sometime during the uninstall, the PC crashed with the following errors:
Error 1
Your PC ran into a problem an needs to restart.
Stop code: BAD SYSTEM CONFIG INFO. Error code: 0xc0000001
You'll need to use recovery tools...
Soon thereafter, the error 1 window disappeared and was replaced with the following screen:
Error 2
The Boot Configuration Data file does not contain valid information for an OS
File: \BCD
Error code: 0xc0000098
I lost my entire drive (SSD) and do not know the Windows version and build of that PC since it could never be rebooted. My system admin had to build a new PC for me. The replacement PC is running Windows 10, Version 20H2 (OS Build 19042.1165). I did not Disable Fences on the desktop prior to attempting the uninstall, but if disabling is a requirement, then the uninstaller should notify the user and prevent continuation.
I searched the forums and could not locate any report of this occurring. (Note: This is similar to post https://forums.stardock.com/483711/fences-update-corruptedbroke-my-windows-install-cant-boot but since I was attempting an uninstall some time after an update, I am creating this as a separate topic.) I cannot afford to have this happen again - it has taken many, many hours to reconfigure my system. Three questions for now:
1) Has anyone else experienced this or has it been reported?
2) Should this be reported as a bug? If so, is this the correct URL for that: https://stardock.atlassian.net/servicedesk/customer/portal/4?/default_import/Tickets/Submit ?
3) I do not find an option to install Fences to a folder of the user's choice (even if the folder is within \Program Files (x86) ). Where is such an option?
