DeskScapes 11 - Problem Code 129

All,

Attempted the update of DeskScapes from version 10 to version 11 today using Object Desktop and received the error "DeskScapes 11 - Problem Code 129.  Where do I begin to look to fix this issue?  TIA.

Basj,

This appears to be associated with the error "Error 1327 invalid drive H :".  I am trying to run through the SUBST command and not having much luck but will let you know what I find.  Also, just a FYI I do find on most of the installation packages that are pushed down for updates give this same error.  I would not think this is the first time someone has brought it up.

Edit: So, after running CMD in an elevated state and running the subst h: c:\temp then run the install it works all day.  However, this messes up my network drive as my h:\drive is connected to a network DFS share.  Is there any other attempt at fixing this for all of the products?

Sorry to hear you are having issues.

If i'm reading this right you installed DS on H: Drive ?

DeskScapes Has to be installed on C : Drive to work properly .

Reboot and ReInstall the latest version Ds11 from your account here : https://store.stardock.com/myaccount/products/

Reboot , test and report back here , please .

AzDude,

Sorry to say you are not understanding correctly.  Something in the install routine does not like the user to have mapped drives.  As I said if I run the previous command and then run the install it installs properly and in the proper location.  There is no need to perform the "PURGE".

Update: So, for SAG I follow the directions given and reboot the machine.  I then start the install and it fails

I then run the following command even though the H: drive does exist and is a network attached drive

The install completes.  However, at the popup for activation none of the buttons work and I have to kill the process and cannot enjoy this new software.

Also, if I click on the "Purchase Product Key" I receive the following

With regards to the purchase button, that seems to be a typo in the URL.  As there is no trial available yet this isn't too much of a concern but I have raised it so it can be resolved internally.  Thanks for letting us know.

On the issue with the buttons not working are you saying clicking them does nothing at all?

It is possible you have secured your Internet Explorer (Yes Internet Explorer not other browsers) in such a way to prevent scripts running?

I have not seen reports of issues with mapped drives before, have you relocated any of the system defined folders (my docs, videos etc) to that drive?

Question 1) thank you for the tip on IE as that was the issue where scripts were being blocked from running.  This also begs to question why a software vendor would make itself dependent on End of Life (EOF) and End of Support (EOS) software like IE.

Question 2) yes, I have all my personal folders redirected to a network share that is a part of my profile.   I do this in order to support VEEAM and the backup operations for profile and all associated documents and pictures.  This way I always have a backup of items in case I delete them or have to leave the house due to a hurricane.

Thanks again for getting me across the plate and I hope that when searching others can find a fix for it.

The IE usage is the only html control the OS ships with (MSHTML.dll).  It is guaranteed to be provided by the OS and would receive security updates if needed. Technically that's the engine bit of IE not IE itself.  Embedding a version of chromium would potentially be bigger than the entire installer is now.

If the installer were browsing the web then yes another browser would be needed.

There are a lot of products using the embedded html engine provided by Windows as for many years it was pretty much the only option.

Sean,

Thanks for the additional information.  I bet you that this application would fail if the user is running FSLogix on their machine as well than.  We have another vendor whom have a similar issue that their application is ingrained so much with IE that it will not work with anything other than IE.  Further, it does not know how to handle the user separation of data that is going to be discarded after a log off.
