In September '73 I had just left the Ooga Booga Bead Band in the redwoods of Humboldt County and was headed for NYC to seek fame and fortune (well, fortune, fame was to be avoided
) so I spent the entire month visiting friends along the coast to say goodbye. I'd decided I had to get married and have kids so I figured I'd go to New York to make a bunch of money and then move back to the Pacific Ocean side of the continent to settle down and raise a family. My plan got accelerated when I got to Carmel and found out a stained glass maker had moved out of Cannery Row and they were holding the shop trying to get in touch with me to see if I'd open a new one.
My leathersmith buddy talked me into it so I did, building a new stained glass shop in the 'Crafts Center' on Cannery Row. Within a few months I was married, bought a house, had a child on the way, and was a shopkeeper, plus, someone traded me a vintage cadillac for a custom window. September '73 was a memorable month for me. It was like an odyssey leading from one life to another.
