There is this place in Portland, Oregon that is called the hop. They have a burger there called the Elvis burger. 9 inches across and 3 high, it fills you up. I love that place!

I consider the chewing and eating of another animals dead flesh kinda' barbaric,,and gross.The burger question could also be the primary reason for deforestation of the planet.A visit to your local slaughterhouse should be in order for everyone who consumes dead animal flesh for food.The conditions in these kill areas are woefully under staffed and under paid and incredibly cruel.And,BTW,The stockyards do not "Throw Away" downed or diseased animals.They are fed to you and your pets.Good luck to ya'-Don't worry though,the USDA is in the house,,har,har,har.hehe.

first, if you don't want to eat meat, feel free not to. I don't believe anyone asked for a lecture. I beg pardon for coming on strong here but vegans often seem to do this and I find it annoying.

You are aware I assume that if we didn't eat meat, we wouldn't raise the animals that provide would we? These things aren't pets after all. And yes, I have been to a slaughter house and I've butchered quite a bit of a whole bunch of animals in my day.

The thing that set me off however is the diseased and downed animals tripe. There are very, very specific and rigid guidelines about this. One, just one "sleeper" (a cow that staggers or can't stand up) slipped by in Canada and the industry has lost 2 billion dollars so far. Over 620,000 head will be destroyed this fall - just in case!

Diatribes are fine if you got the facts.

I think that you also meant "vegetarian" instead of vegan.  There aren't very many "vegans" around.  (Vegans don't eat or use *any* animal products.  Vegetarians only shun eating meat, but will eat eggs, dairy, etc.)  I seldom ever eat meat.  I started the whole "vegetarian" thing when a Dr. told me to cut it out or my kidney's will try and kill me (I guess bad kidneys and animal protein don't mix   But all I know is that my blood work comes back bad when I start eating meat again) 

Anyway, ethical vegetarians can go a bit nuts.   I think it's because most vegetarians have read "slaughter house" which is a really nasty book about the US slaughter houses.  After seeing some of the farms around here, I have to say that I believe some of it is true.  (More on the side of Chicken nastiness, though...but that is a different story.....)  But, anyway, to each his/her own.  It's your body, eat what you want (as long as it's not pets or other humans..or something like that )!

I have eaten burgers from coast to coast, on buns to toast. Fuddruckers (chain in midwest and elsewhere) is as good as it gets for a chain. Mom and pop's here and there, but overall, they rock.

Fatburger is pretty cool on the west coast as well. Esp. at 3am on the Strip or in LA. In-And-Out Burger is decent as well, but they're no Fuddruckers.

Next time, let's consider in the context of the fries as well.

The best burger is a Double CB from Callahans. Yea you never heard of it cuz' there is only 1 and it's located in northern New Jersey (close the GW bridge). Chili's also makes some good burgers.

Best hamburgers is at Harveys. Char broiled and thet put what ever you want on it. The worst is McDonalds. It's not even real hamburger and they stick ketchup and pickles on it that soak through the bun. Plus they use that garbage Alberta beef that makes you sick and croak! God Damn Canadians! The best hamburger wrap is Burger King. Probably cause I work at the place that manufactures the wraper. BK whopper is what I'm working on now (12" x 16"). Box of 4,000, piled on a skid 8 per layer, 6 layers high. Next time one of you clowns eats a BK whopper, just remember all the sweat I put into it making the wrapper for you!

dunno about anyone else but those dang Bean and or Porta-Shroom Burgers are like biting into a pile of... mmmm... wel the dog would hang it's head and run in fear thinking the whole time "wasn't me!" if someone dropped it on the floor and didn't clean it up.

I do have a thing about the milk industry (mainly because my daughter is allergic to "regular" milk but can drink Organic which makes me wonder what kind of chemicals and hormones are in milk...) But you are wrong on the "oranges have calcium" idea.  Oranges have Vitamin C, but they *add* calcium to orange juice.  What does have calcium in it?  Legumes, and dark green veggies.

Anyway, back to the burger discussion. Boca Burgers, which are my favorite, are finding their way into many restaurant chains as a meat alternative.  If you have never tried one, then you really don't know what they are.  They are different from most of the "veggie" patties because they are made from textured soy.  They are also not grainy or dry.  Both Red Robin (not sure how big that chain is) and Bennigans restaurants serve them as an alternative in any of their burgers.  They are really good substituted in a mushroom burger since mushroom burgers tend to have a lot of fat from cheese and moisture from the mushrooms.......this discussion makes me want to go out for a burger....
