Groupy - 1.43 (Release) Issue Report Thread

With the Groupy 1.43 release, we are creating this thread so that users can report any observed issues.

Reporting an issue

Please include the following for anything found:

  • Exact Windows version \ build (winver.exe)
  • Detailed steps to recreate the issue seen
  • Screenshots and videos are very helpful.  Videos can be uploaded to a cloud drive services (GoogleDrive, DropBox, OneDrive, YouTube) and links included in your post.  Images can be directly added.
  • If there are specific apps that Groupy does not work (well) with, please note what apps and their exact versions.  If any app is not common, a link to a trial version would be appreciated.

Groupy 1.43 is a culmination of 2 prior betas. Below are the changelogs for each and links to the discussions for them.

Changelog for 1.43

  • Fixed an issue for where a gap appeared under the Groupy titlebar when adding to a maximized Group \ app
  • Fixed an issue that would see some apps (e.g. Photoshop) have bottom of view space cut off \ not visible. 
  • Fixed an issue that could have seen Windows Explorer become sluggish over time

  • Addressed an issue for some apps without standard titlebars not being correctly positioned in a maximized group resulting in some clipping of content.

Probably not a bug in 1.43 specifically for all I know it may never have worked.

Anyway, am evaluating Groupy 1.43 on Win 10 Enterprise b1849

Am finding there is no way to dock/group the Tradestation 10 update 48 application www.tradestation.com using Groupy. A related application OptionStation and the Tradestation development environment docks as tabs just fine as does other unrelated trading software I have like Ominitrader, Metatrader etc. Of course other software also works OK with groupy, its only the main TS window that wont behave.

I guess its something specific about the particular window that the main TS program creates which already contains multiple internal tabs, toolbars, and various MDI aspects.

If any of your staff have a Tradestation stock trading account please can you check it out, it would be nice to get this working since TS tends to be a "messy" application with its windowing so use of Groupy would certainly make for a less cluttered trading desktop and you could market your product to an entire category of customers who usually arent spending averse to things that help them be more effective and potentially get lots more sales.

Hi, 

 

after the update Groupy does not turn on. I tried reinstalling the software, running as admin, but it did not help. 

When starting the application it asks if I want to start it, but clicking on yes, does not change the setting. Clicking the on/off switch does not change the setting. 

I am running Windows 10 (all updates installed).

Please try purge and reinstall steps as mentioned here: https://forums.stardock.com/488142/groupy-support-faq#reinstalling Just make sure to redownload the latest version from your account. Reboot after the purged. Reinstall, and Reboot again after the installation. Retest it. Report back here.

  1. Can't open disk or folder from quick access or navigation pane by middle mouse button click. 
  2. When middle click any  of the folder or disk It's opens up directly and move's me towards opened path, Instead i wanted the folder open's up in a background just like chrome, so I can open another folder from same disk.

Just because it's forwarded me through another tab when I used middle click, I switched to previous tab and open the folder that I want.

Please fix this issues

I'm running daily into a condition in which Groupy starts consuming an insane amount of CPU (checking the task mgr), and most apps start becoming unresponsive ; it stabilizes when I close windows it's managing or kill the groupy process (had to do that as at times it was impossible to do otherwise, tough that leaves the whole interface in a weird state, windows start doing awkward things). How can I help?

You need to try manually enabling the service:

If it will not enable, an AV app is likely preventing it from doing so.

I have 3 or 4 apps: Outlook (365, often different windows, like mail, calendar and to-do list), Vivaldi (browser, sometimes 2 or 3 windows), Evernote (2 windows or so) and Notepad++. I'm almost positive this has occurred with only the Outlook windows being managed by Groupy. I cannot easily tell what happens if I let it run, because I got to a point where the consumption is so high that the whole system becomes practically unresponsive for periods of several minutes.

Thank you but there are still questions left unanswered, for example, exact Windows \ Groupy version.

Also, we need a way to reproduce it if possible. Since others are not seeing it (no other current reports), we have to rely on you to help us see, under what conditions (apps, groupings, settings) this happens under and steps to get there.

With that, can you reliably reproduce this 100% of the time - that if you do X, Y, Z, with A, B, C apps, over a period of time, you can make this happen?  If so, please help us with the above variables.

gotcha. being on dev I hear you I noticed the CPU spikes coming down actually after 2 minutes on my last test; I'll monitor and get back to you if there's a re-ocurrence, including those details you asked for.

Grouply 1.43 started misbehaving after I started using Windows 10 multiple desktops.

I grouped a Windows Explorer with a Brave browser profile with several tabs. Going back to 1 desktop, still strange beams (title bar filling) to the top left of my screen.

Brave became unresponsive to clicks until I ungrouped the Explorer and Brave. 

Still these beams keep appearing.

Just to double check, by multiple desktops do you mean multiple monitors or the Windows multiple desktops feature?

If the later, do those beams line up with where something was on another desktop?

Multiple Windows Virtual Desktops on multiple monitors

After closing the virtual desktops, beams still appeared on the one remaining desktop. Disabled Groupy for the session.

Not OP nor is my issue daily, rather intermittent but closely resembles this behavior. Mine is more weird behavior when using mouse clicks or keystrokes. Like today, running GTA V and had about 4-6 windows explorer windows grouped together and about 4 normal firefox tabs open. When I alt tabbed while the game was loading, it changed functions on my keyboard, went into zoom mode and alt tab no longer worked. Was able to get out of magnification mode (not keybound to the key I was pressing) and killed the process via task manager (keyboard shortcut ctrl+shift+esc not working, windows button was and ran task manager that way). Once killed, pc resumed normal functions.

 

    • What app(s), when added to a group, has this happen - this normally affects me when I'm in VB or GTA V (seems like control or alt+tab kind of triggers it).

 

    • How many apps total in the group when this happens - 4-6 windows explorer, 4-6 normal firefox tabs

 

    • Does task manager show CPU consumption continuing to increase even if you don't do anything for a period of time - unsure did not look at it specifically but I did some performance checking for GTA and did not see or notice groupy at the top.

 

    • Exact Windows \ Groupy version - win 2004, build 19041.572 / whichever the latest version is, currently uninstalled as the intermittent behavior was growing annoying.

 

Really good idea of a product and really enjoy using it when its working.

Hello.

 

I've noticed a strange bug: sometimes grouped apps (mostly VS Code or Windows Explorer) is just freezing, and I can do anything with it (it's like a printed screenshot physically sticked to monitor). 

 

This grouped window just overlapping anything else, even if I kill the process of this app (or even if I kill Groupy process). The only windows that appears above frozen group is a system elements (like start menu or windows that appears on Alt + Tab, but even if I try to select another app with Alt + Tab it's still behind frozen group). When I launch any another applications I can see it on a taskbar, but the grouped window still overlays it (and I still can't close the frozen window).

 

Anyway, I have second monitor, and if I move app windows between monitors with Win + Shift + ← / → hotkeys I can see the app on my second monitor, but when I move it back to the first monitor it stays overlapped by the frozen window. The frozen window isn't moving onto another monitor.

 

For the first few times when it happened I had to reboot my computer (and I already was thinking about stop using Groupy). But later I discovered that I can open Groupy settings on another monitor and If I change switch "Groupy is currently on" to "off "and then back to "on " - the frozen window disappears!

 

This problem happened before but very seldom (maybe once or twice for many months), but in the last few weeks it happens very often (several times a day). I think maybe it's related to 1.43 update (but I don't sure when it was released).

 

My Groupy version: 1.43;

 

My Windows version: Windows 10 1903 (18362.476)

Thank you for your answer.

I tried to delete Groupy with Revo Uninstaller (software that deletes programs and their remaining files/registry keys) and install it again. It didn't help. But if you think that using .bat file from your url can help me to solve the problem — I'll try it.

No, I didn't use Groupy hotkeys. I've just noticed that they even exist (they are disabled in "Advanced" settings).
