Dear all
Like some other people - for I've seen this complaint before, though I am afraid I do not recall where - sending an icon to the desktop (in, I think, any way) is too slow. The process produces an hourglass for some eight seconds and that is on a computer with a quadcore, 16GB of RAM, a SSD and which generally is in at least fairly good shape. (Windows 10 Pro 1909.) Can anything be done about this?
Things I have tried to no avail:
- updating Fences (I have the latest version already);
- trimming my SSD;
- defragging the spinning drives to which some of my desktop icons point;
- updating Windows
Something I am reluctant to do: reinstall Fences; for, it would a hassle and it might achieve nothing.
Further details
- I have Fences set to put new icons in a particular fence.
- I have ten fences (and surely having many Fences is sort of the point of the program and there is no way that a computer with my specs has to lag in the way that I have described).
- I am not using 'desktop pages'.
- I suppose I could try using 'folder portals' instead. EDIT: I have just tried this. It did not improve speed. I thought perhaps that the Windows 'send to' function might be the problem, but even saving a document (an almost empty one) to the desktop produced the hourglass (and did not go the fence - or rather portal - I told Fences to send it to).
