start10 interfering with putting my laptop into sleep mode

Hi,

I have just installed start10 on my new windows 10 pro laptop. However, when I try to put my laptop to sleep it takes about 30s to enter the sleep mode. If I uninstall start10 it goes into sleep mode in less than 3s.

Is there any option I can set for it not to interfere with the sleep mode?

Hello,
Sorry to hear you are having issues. Never heard that Start10 is interfering with Sleep mode. Please try the purge and reinstall steps as mention here : https://forums.stardock.com/486022/start10-support-faq#reinstalling

Just make sure to re-download the latest version from your account. Reboot after the purge, reinstall and reboot again. Retest and report back.

Hi,

I have done as you've suggested but the problem is still there. I have two stardock software in my stystem:

1- Start 10: version 1.8

2- Windowsblinds: 10.84 (059 - Windows 10 Edition) - 64 bit OS

Laptop is: ZBook 17 G5

My windows is: windows 10 pro 18363.657

Could the two program interfere with each other? Do I have to reinstall windowblinds as well?

It also gave a lot of errors:

removed windowblinds and the same problem exits.

Finally uninstalled both then reinstalled both from Object Desktop and the problem is there. Please let me know what else I can do?

Hello,

I have tested my own system, and I can say I see a little bit more time with Start10 installed. For my system without Start10 it takes around 9-12 sec to sleep and with Star10 its around 14-16 sec.

For me, that is reasonable time added. But, I have forwarded your questions/problems to the Stardock Support team for their assistance. Please keep an eye on this thread for any updates. We appreciate you feedback and patience.

Hope they come back soon as I am uninstalling Start10 from my system. For me it goes from 3sec to at least 30sec and sometimes a lot more.

That certainly isn't normal.

What method are you using to sleep the computer both with and without Start10?

Two methods:

1- selecting Sleep in the windows start menu

2- pressing the laptop ON/OFF button that is configured for sleep

Both were behaving the same, but after several uninstallation and reinstallation:

1 - is still the same i.e. it takes more than 30s to go to sleep and sometimes never does. The display turns off but  the machine does not go into sleep.

2- for some reason 2 has started working now. However, the time to sleep has changed from 3s to about 10s.

Any News?

I had to uninstall Start10. Now I am using open-shell-menu and it works fine with hardly any latency entering sleep mode.

Is it possible for windowsblinds not to skin the start menu so that open-shell-menu can properly colour the start menu whilst the sleep problem is sorted out?

Hello,

As far as I know without Start10 install, Windowblinds can't effect Windows 10 Start menu, but Windowblinds does control System colors. When a theme change a system colors, some dark theme does, it will effect entire Windows system colors. I never use Open-Shell-menu before, so I don't really know how it work.

WB is designed to work with Windows native components and other Stardock products.  When / where possible, reasonable accommodations can be made for other 3rd party apps but WB has not yet been tested with Open-shell.

Open-shell-menu is a free program that is being used by many. WB does interfere with its colouring scheme. I wonder if it is this option in WB (setting menu):

"use the task bar and start menu from this style: (UIS2/1"

that causes the problem, as there is no option to just add it to the task bar and not the start menu as well.

I hope this is fixed soon as this configuration (WB + Open-shell-menu) is working for me.

A test here is not showing any problems with sleep performance and Start10, or at least no change between Start10 running and not running.

Does the display remain on all this time or is this just HDD activity you can see that's taking a long time?

Also is this a machine that supports connected standby as sleep in Start10 is handled differently in those to more standard machines.  Other apps might not handle these correctly and so not put your machine in connected standby mode.

The display is tuned off in a few seconds but machine does not go into sleep as is evident by some of the keyboard lights (for example CAP lock) are still on.  Sometimes it takes 30s and some time a few minutes and sometimes never. The only way I can turn the machine off when the display is off is by pressing the on/off button for a long time.

This is a new laptop I am using I have reprogrammed HD to the initial state i.e. not many software installed; uninstalled start10 it goes to sleep within 3s, installed open-shell-menu and it goes to sleep in about 3s. uninstalled open-shell-menu and installed start10 and the problem returns

 

Running powercfg give this:

C:\windows\system32>powercfg /a

The following sleep states are available on this system:

    Standby (S3)

The following sleep states are not available on this system:

    Standby (S1)

        The system firmware does not support this standby state.

    Standby (S2)

        The system firmware does not support this standby state.

    Hibernate

        Hibernation has not been enabled.

    Standby (S0 Low Power Idle)

        The system firmware does not support this standby state.

    Hybrid Sleep

        Hibernation is not available.

    Fast Startup

        Hibernation is not available.

Ideally, we need to be able to reproduce it, or have other reports of it - we have neither. 

What may prove fruitful is a purge of Start10:

A reinstall with no changes at all to the default set up and paired with a clean boot:

Both will help eliminate settings, Windows account issues, and 3rd party app conflicts.

I have done those steps before which did not help.

The effect of WB on open-shell-menu is quite obvious and I think should be repeatable on all system as WB is trying to skin (or change the colour settings) of the start menu.

The reset thing and other reports, even in a few posts above (reply #6) Basj suggests that on his/her system it makes going to sleep 5s slower whilst on mine is more like 30s or never. What I do not understand why start10 should interfere with sleep at all? 

As I have said Open-shell-menu (as an alternative to start10) does what I want, it just that WB is interfering with it. Please either fix WB or Start10 so that I can use the software.

Hello,

Your issue with WB, is not actually WB issue. It the theme that asked WB to change the system color to match with that theme coloring. To get away with that issue you can simply use WB theme that do not change system color. The best choice is to use Default theme that come along with WB such as, Acrylic 7, Arsenic, Corporate etc.

Top picture my current start menu with WB active, middle one with WB unloaded and the buttom one is WB style setting. In my current open-shell-menu style it seems that only the text are affected, in other styles the colours get affected too.

I guess that is prove "Acrylic 7" is not compatible with Open Shell, "Diamond" look good for me.
