DeskScapes 10.02 Manage folders & installation BUGS

DeskScapes 10.02 BUGS

1- If we install the program elsewhere then the default path, Deskscapes config GUI appears for a fraction of a second then disappears when called with desktop r-click | "Configure DeskScapes"...

2- DS does NOT manage folders well : When we add folders in the list, the right pane remains empty even the folder being full of .dream files and .jpg and .avi.

3- The 'Animated' folders (Downloaded and video) are empty. Where are they supposed to point to ? Same question for the 'Stills' folders.

The only way to add and access the wallpapers are via the upper left 'Recent' link !

Here are the added folders and they show nothing on the right view panel... %user%\documents\stardock\dreams is full of dreams files and some .jpg and .mp4 videos so... why don't they show ?

And when I download dreams, why don't they show in the 'Animated | Downloaded' section !?

Here's another 'Manage Folders' problem. I can't delete user-added folders from the 'Manage Folders' list. The 'Delete' button always remains greyed out. I realize you can't delete the standard folders.

Another bug they have to correct indeed but... you can deal with it by deleting the corresponding values in the registry...

On my side though it does work/delete.

What is your OS ?

I realize you can't delete the standard folders.

They can't (? I haven't checked) but in "Manage Folders", the checkboxes can be unchecked so they don't appear in the left list.

As for the registry, look in HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Stardock\Deskscapes\Dream.ini

Unchecking the tickboxes doesn't remove the folders from the 'Manage folders' list. Just the side panel list.

I have ticked the folders that I want to remove from the 'Manage Folders' list and the 'Delete' button is still greyed out. The only way to remove the folders is to go to the Registry Key you provided then the 'DreamDir' and remove the old folders from the Key list. Also, the 'DreamDirSub' key contains a similar list of folders. I removed the old folders from this key as well.

You will note that none of the 'Standard Folders' are shown in either registry keys' list.

The 'Manage Folders' function needs to be redesigned so that, when opened, no boxes are ticked. Ticking a box should, then, unlock the 'Delete' button so that folders can be removed from the list. Perhaps a separate tick box can be provided so that folders can be shown in the side-panel list.

Okay... I see that. That's not very intuitive; since there's no description, anywhere, of how to use things. I haven't found any docs for this program yet. The '?' button in the top right of the Deskscapes window doesn't provide any help. Nor is there any '?' help links on any of the secondary pop up applets.

It would be good to have documents describing the workings of these programs; or, did I miss something somewhere.

Is this still the way you have DS installed - outside of the default path?

In either case, please purge DS:

Reboot.

If you create a new Windows Admin (<---- important) account, install DS in the proper / default location, do you still have the same issue with dream/backgrounds not showing in the DS UI for added folders where the proper file types exist?

If so, and you save this image as is, not edited or converted in any way, to a location in local/current user '\Documents':

And you click off your added location, then back, does it show?

I reinstalled in the default path after having done the Purge as stated in this other thread of mine. If you haven't changed the Purge.bat procedure, it is useless that I do it again and don't really want to do it again for I'll loose ALL links in the Recent section.

Regarding your instructions, here is the result :

What size are those images?

Do you have Deskscapes (on the three bar menu top left) set to only show screen sized or bigger images?

Images below 40k in size or less than 512 pixels wide or tall will not be shown either as they are too low resolution generally to be of use. Only JPG, PNG and BMP files (for static wallpapers) will show. GIF files are not supported.

YES : the images are BIG (screen size like the ones up above) and jpg and png don't show... neither dreams nor mp4.

Created a new account. Same problem !!!

I didn't have to reinstall DS cuz it was already installed (on all account I supposed)...

I also paused my antivirus to check if it was an issue but no, the problem remained even with the AV pauses.

I know you dont want to redo settings but some setting - somewhere - is causing you to have this problem - one no one else is reporting currently...
