Sleep button disappears in Windows 7 menu, re-appears in Windows 10 menu

So I have a new Lenovo Thinkpad.  I installed Start10 and it's working as expected... EXCEPT for one annoying issue.

When I turn on the Windows 7 menu, the "sleep" option disappears from the shutdown menu.

When I switch back to the Windows 10 menu, the sleep option returns.

Sleep settings are visible in power options with either menu running.

Any ideas?

You can use that picture frame icon if it available for you. If its not you can upload a picture to any image sharing website and post the link here.

I have the same problem.
I am running Windows 10 Pro with Start 10 on a desktop computer. Generally I like using the Windows 7 style start menu.
However if I use Windows 7 Style (or Modern Style) for the start menu I do not get the option to Sleep the computer from the start menu, however if I use Windows 10 style then the sleep option is available.
When I have set the Windows button to show the Win 10 Start menu and again I have the sleep option.
How can I get a sleep option on the Windows 7 Style start menu?
 I have tried taking screen shots: OK in the Windows 10 Style, but in Windows 7 Style I get a cropped shot which does not show the shutdown menu

You can use Windows's "Snipping Tool" and set its delay for 5 secs. And take Your screenshots. Its quite easy to do it.

HKCU\SOFTWARE\\Microsoft\\Windows\\CurrentVersion\\Explorer\\FlyoutMenuSettings\ShowSleepOption

Hi Sean

The problem I am having is on a desktop computer.
Using Regedit I do not have any HKLM or HKCU keys, they are all HKEY.
I have searched these but cannot find anything similar to the keys above.

I think he meant HKLM is Hkey local machine. and HKCU is Hkey Current User.

That may actually be a good thing (neither do I).  What about the other key?

That relates to this:

So no doubt yours is set to zero, yes?  Try setting it to 1, reboot, and see if you have the option then.

I found 2 keys with abfc2519-3608-4c2a-94ea-171b0ed546ab in them, they both had no value, but setting them to 1 and rebooting still left me with no sleep option on Windows 7 style. I can live with what I have as the sleep key on my keyboard and having changed the windows key to give me Windows 10 screen both work to give me sleep.

Same situation while running Start10 ("Sleep" & "Hibernate" in Windows Start menu if I CTRL-CLK Start to bring up the standard icon-based menu, but neither of those options in the Shutdown/Lock/Restart/etc. popup menu created by Start10). My HKLM/abc... key is undefined [exists, but Default REG_SZ is undefined, ACSettingIndex & DCSettingIndex REG_DWORD are both 0x00000001) , while I have no HKCU/.../FlyoutMenuSettings subfolder.

I'm in "settling for invoking Sleep using something other than Start10's menu" camp, but I would *like* to find a way to get the Sleep option to appear in the (Start10) Shutdown/etc. menu.

Hi Andrew

I assume that you have Win 10 Pro as I do not think sleep/hibernate is available in Win 10 Home.

The way I have got around the problem is to set the Windows key on my keyboard to bring up the Windows 10 style menu. On this menu the sleep option is then available.

Why is the "picture" icon missing in this forum?

I cannot directly upload a picture... I was told that if the icon was not available that I should upload to a photo sharing site.  And while this is possible its certainly not as convenient and a direct upload to the forum.  Plus, long term reference of the thread is dependent on the photo being stored somewhere else indefinitely which experience proves is not always the case.....

Did Stardock remove the ability to upload photos to this forum directly?

No btm52487, the ability is there, not just in plain sight.  I thought it was missing as well but it is actually right here.

 

Click on the + icon to get up the menu, then on Image and pick one of these two that would fit your purpose.
