WB 10.8 #2026 decompression error.

Any suggestions?

I just downloaded the new 10.8 version of Windowblinds. I tried installing it as an administrator and regularly. I keep getting "A decompression error has occurred (#2026). I didn't have Windowblinds installed for a long time. So there was no need to uninstall. It always gets this error as soon as I reach the Acrylic 7 folder. I assume that is a sample skin. I did a reboot between each attempt.

First, is anyone else running into this problem? If so, has anyone found a way around it? Or does anyone have any suggestions on how to do it?

Second, just a thought or maybe a request to Stardock. I seem to be loading the software with no problem until I reach the Acrylic 7 skin. Would it be possible to make available the install program without any skins? There a loads to choose from, and it would differentiate whether the problem is the software or a skin.

Personally I would download Windowblinds 10.8 again and try installing it. Sounds like you may have gotten a corrupted download to me.

Problem resolved! I have Bitdefender Total Protection. It took the install program to be malware and blocked it. Turned it off temporarily and Windowblinds installed correctly.

I know this post is old but I have same issue at this time and unblocking an app is not what I am looking for.

We need the reason.

My question is: Why Bitdefender should block this app and why after a few months we still have the same issue?

I just downloaded this app and tried to install it so there is no update for this issue.

Sorry to hear you are having issues. I have Bitdefender too but no issue on installing WB. But from my experience there are several AVs blocking Windowblinds process either while installing or while doing its jobs. From my experience if you get WB directly from Stardock or Steam, All of them are false positive.

I know and understand some antivirus programs have false positive.

But is not possible if you find a way to fix this?

Sorry to hear you are having trouble.

I am not certain if BitDefender manages this part of Windows but I suspect it does - just not sure if you will be able to edit it with BitDefender running of if this is the reason at all.

That said, are you able to disable 'Ransomeware Protection' / 'Controlled folder access' in Windows 10?

And if so, and you temporarily disable it, does it work then?

Ok, but BD is doing its own thing. In testing this, I ran into the same issue for a totally different app, ShareX:

That was a fresh install, I did not change a thing.

We could add an exception for the installation file.

What I am really looking for is a solution without changing options in Bitdefender or any other antivirus software.

Today, I have curtains Beta which is better than WB.

I just needed this Dark mode option which Stardock has finally made.

This is not something we (or any other developer) can control directly - unlike an AV app flagging our products as a virus - something we can lobby them to change.

That app is restricting writing to certain folders on your PC. If you want to have it stop doing it for apps, you need to edit the AV apps own global settings. The Controlled Folder Access instructions I provided were a Windows version of doing just that.
