I'm Having a Bad Day with Macromedia Flash :-(

I have been trying to display a website at my University as it's my end of year show, the problems is I made it on a PC but the only computers we have at uni for graphics are Mac’s. I tried every thing I can think of to try and get it working, projector files, .swf's and HTML doc's with .swf. I can get the files to open and work but they don't link, none of the action script responsible for linking the documents works.

To make it work on different computers I have set the pathways for the action script to follow as ..\Flash Movies\file name.swf and it work on every PC, but Mac’s even with Mac .swf files. It as if the pathway structure is different on a Mac and it can't understand the pathways.

Anyone else had this problem?

huh?

well I would suggest that you save the project and have someone open it on the Mac with FLash and save the project again on the MAC


Other than that honestly I don't see a reason why a flash file won't work on the omputer. if it is i the folder then its in the folder.

Also I would try using the "/" symbol and imbed the flash in HTML pages. "/" is used for the web and from what I know is converted by the computer if your testing it on the MAC (as well as PC's) just for view ONLY

I'm pretty sure bacslashes won't work on Macs. Use the forward slash (/) for your path.

Also, there used to be an inconsistency between Macs and PCs as far as links withing the Flash goes. PC's interpreted the relative link as the HTML page for the source, and Macs as the SWF file as the source. So, since then, I've taken the habbit of placing my SWF file in the same directory as the HTML page. I don't know if they've solved that issue sicne then, but it's a habbit I took anyway.

yeah good idea paxx.

and if you have links to other pages in different deeper directories of the home directory then place the flash file with the next page in the same directory too.

paxx is right, keep flash/shockwave files in the same directory (whatever file has to do with that page) as the HTML file.

The forward slash probably is the solution. As it happens to be, a backwards slash is DOS-only, while the Web is built on *nix and thus use forward slashes (on any platform).

As for Flash, it is rather platform independent, though not completely (small issues, mostly actionscript related).

try uploading the work to a website.

everything works on the web

and with all this talk of forward slash and backward slash lets have an illistration

not this>>>>
folder\school\file.htm

try this:
folder/school/file.htm

That is how its done. make sure all of the links follow that format in all pages.

if that don't work then I don't know what will...

Forward slashes (/) should work fine on both Mac and PC. I've done many CD-ROMs with HTML pages and Flash, and forward slashes have always worked no problem.
