One analogy that I've seen on other websites about this that I like: It's like having a car that will warn you twice if you go over the speed limit, then blow up.

I wouldn't worry about it.  I don't see how they could possibly implement
it, our how there would not be *many* business rallying against this.  Can
you imagine an employee getting a work machine blown away because they somehow
downloaded pirated music?  I'd like to see how anyone can justify
this.  As far as I know, it is still illegal to take these types of
actions.  You can destroy a computer due to piracy.  (If it was legal,
don't you think that every software company in the world would be uploading
cracked software that would wipe your computer?)  Don't see this ever
becoming reality.  Can you imagine your computer being hosed because your
13 year old (who is not an adult, and can not be legally considered an adult)
downloaded pirated music?  I don't think so....

This is also goes directly against our constitution where you are innocent until proven guilty.  They are trying to implement a directly guilty verdict with an immediate punishment.

A more appropriate step would be for an automated notification system that informs authorities if you are downloading/using illegal copyrighted material.  But even that idea opens up a can of worms.

But wouldn't you DL only mpegs mp3s or wmas? I mean, can they really have a ping of death encoded in one of those files? And anyway, they are making it guilty until proven innocent like always. But then it's too late. And the government will never pay you for your machine and/or software and time you put into it. I was guilty until I was proven inoccent just last night. I'm starting to dislike the law greatly. Or at least the officials. >

I would like to see them try to implement this. what I do believe is that they should do it for child p0rn and other larger criminal acts.

As far as this democrate/repuplican I have always felt republicans were the type to got to an extreme like this; like a my way or the highway additude. Just MHO


I would be for finding out who is downloading songs on mass, and get there IP addresses and basically go to the home and confiscate the computer and bring it back when the material is removed. The ISP's should easliely be able to know who is downloading and where by the records.

Since college campuses are a major area of theft, networks would have to be reconfigured to allow specific users and track them on sign in when downloading a continuos stream of data.




All this fuss... I don't remember all this when the VCR came out. What happened to tape recorders? Yes digital media makes it so easy and high quality (studio quality in fact) but instead of handling it like this, why not come up with a solution. Apple computers seems to got it. Every week the sales increase and Mac;s are only 3% of the world market (I believe) and they get 400,000 downloads a week.

Make it available to consumers and they will buy it. Come up with a new marketing stratagey and they ill buy those 20 dollars collectable CD's

A good example of the current law: if a company is hacked, the FBI can not install software to catch the hacker.  they can "suggest" that you implement things that will track them, but they can not do it themselves.

They just can't.  And, having the government tracking IP addresses and what people do seems like a complete violation of privacy.  We're talking a true big brother issue here.

It's merely a cry for attention to further his political carreer. Politicians come up with dumb ideas all the time. They're really not to be taken serious(ly).

There a couple issues with that, joe.

First, Kazza is not illegal.  If you wanted, you could use it as a peer to peer network for exchanging your photos with your family.  there are legal ways of using it.  It is *how* people are using that which is illegal.

Second, there are entrapment laws and laws about invasion of privacy which prohibit entities from setting up ways to collect information to use against a person.

An IP address also does not prove who the person is.  My husband and I use the same computer (have the same IP).  I am sure that my daughter will use the computer.  What happens if one of her friends are over and uses the computer?   It's just like saying that you saw a car with a certain license plate at a robbery.  you can say who owns the car, but that does not prove that they are the one who committed the crime.

Metallica (ironically) made a smart move with their new album to get you to buy it.  Even though you don't pay more for it, it includes a DVD and a code to download extra stuff online.

Maybe if more bands did stuff like that, it would make people want to buy their albums.

I think that pirated music should be on the bottom of our list of social issues that we need to fix.

Don't you know that the government IS already tracking everyone? The technology they have at their disposal is at least 7 years ahead of what we have now. The whole big brother thing is real...

The reason them adverts appear is cause them countries don't have money to where America has for theirs.
