Icons Move When Monitor Turns Off

I was a Fences 1.0 user for years on Windows 7 with no problems. Got a new computer with Windows 10 & had to buy Fences 3.0. Got it set up. Nothing fancy. Just locked fences on 1 screen. However, every time my monitor turns off & other times as well, my icons play musical chairs. They go all over the desktop. Some within fences, some out of fences. If it weren't for the snapshots, I wouldn't even be using Fences. The only thing I can think of is that my screen resolution is at 1920 x 1080, but I have custom scaling on at 140%. It didn't cause any problems for setting up the Fences though. I tried contacting customer service, only to discover there in no customer service. Any help would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!

Yes.

If that doesn't work then try turning scaling back to 100%

1920x1080 should be fine .

Also what version of windows and batch type in run ( winver )

OK, 1803 is what we wanted to know , wanted to make sure you weren't in 1809 yet.

1803 is what I'm using .

I did the purge. Am I right in assuming that Stardock has the most recent version of Fences?

Hello,

Don't use the Trial version if you bought fences go to your account as I said 

and download the latest version 3.0.9.11 from there.

If you have the trial version loaded do a PURGE https://forums.stardock.com/486084/fences-support-faq#reinstalling

REBOOT and then load 3.0.9.11 all should work fine then.

OK. It didn't work, but when I went to My Account, Products wasn't an option. My Downloads & Order History both give me an option to download Fences. Both are listed as 3.09. So which do I use, or does it matter?

Hello,

You can download that 3.09 from your account and install that version. It should be the latest version. You can verify it after your installation and check the "About" section on the Fences configuration panel. It should be version 3.09.11. If you get something else please report back here.

The trial version I installed yesterday is version 3.09.11. Is there a difference?

We suggested for you to download and install again, yes the same version, just to make sure its install correctly and with the latest version. There are a lot of cases doing the purge and reinstall fresh copies solved problem.

If you are using 'sleep', and it still wakes with the icons hosed, wait for it to fully load and try restarting Windows Explorer:

If possible, don't let the PC 'sleep' as the shut down / startup process is not elegant.  Rather, try this Power option:

OK. I had "Preserve my desktop layout by scaling my fences" instead. I do use sleep, but it's either when the display turns off or the hard disk turns off in my power options that the problem occurs. It never gets to the sleep point without it already occurring. At night, I use hibernate. If I recall correctly, putting it to sleep and/or hibernating manually does not cause the problem.

Regardless, I would like you to experiment with Windows just, and only just, turning the monitor off - no sleep or hibernate.   I get why people want to use those options, and I am not saying you cant, I just want to see if that affects what you are seeing.

Let display & hard disk turn off and Fences were intact afterward! Cross your fingers it stays that way. Should I still keep it from sleeping?

Well let display & hard disk turn off and Fences were not intact this time. So you want me to keep it on all night & see what happens in the morning? Can I at least lock it?

Keeping it awake did not prevent anything. Fences were still messed up.
