So What's with The Depicting Of Obese Women At Devart Lately?

it's pretty gross.

I often go over to devart to look for Steampunk-like icons and wallpapers, but lately there is an over abundance, and then some, of overly obese looking cartoon characters, often with enormous boobs.

Why this stuff is called art - or is on a site displaying art - beats me. The depictions are hideous and the subject material is quite obnoxious to say the least. Not only does it trivialise the real problems some people have with their weight, it depicts women in a derogatory way, like they're freaks or something.

Put bluntly, I've had a gutful of it, and if I'm offended by this so-called art, I have to wonder what the female visitors over at devart think when the depictions are of women, NEVER men. Anyway, I've drawn a line and will not trawl down the home page or look up the 'What's Hot' section for Steampunk stuff anymore. This offensive stuff is plastered over those pages, so now I will just go to the icon and relevant wallpaper sections and leave.

I never saw any section on da that isn't a mess of mediocre 'art' lately. Even dedicated sections are a messy catastrophe. Gave up on 'icons' and 'iconpackager' as people upload hundreds of same looking icons one by one and the iconpackager section contains all sort of s**t.

That is the result of no moderation anywhere.

A large population providing content relatively freely. Odds are the majority of it isn't going to appeal to any particular individual. The trick with graphics is it's more "In Your Face" than say music. (Pretty safe bet that if a person goes to a major music site and just starts randomly listening to samples it will quickly become tedious.)

When the "mental filtering" outweighs the rewards, well you just try something else.

I dunno, there's quite a bit of objectionable stuff over at devart. The Steampunk and some fantasy-type wallpapers are all I go there for, but what I'm looking for is so far and few between these days it hardly seems worth the effort.

I wasn't calling overweight women gross, just the cartoon depictions showing overly obese women in a derogatory way. So women/people have weight issues due to various medical issues and it's no fault of their own - my ex-wife being one due to lymphodema, and we are best of friends - so I was in no way calling overweight women gross.

However, the so-called art showing obesity to extremes is gross, and if you took a look at it you'd see what I mean.

Yeah, I have to agree, every section over there is a complete mess... even the icon sections. Of late, the icon libraries are 99% full of folder icons of TV shows and movies, and I have no interest in those so I refine my searches to the content I am interested in. As for the IconPackager section over there, well I haven't bothered with that in years. As you rightly put it, it contains all sorts of shit..... and 99% totally unrelated to the IconPackager program.

Yup, it's getting that way! I does get tiresome having to filter out that which fails to please aesthetically, and when sites fail their members and/or visitors with large quantities of sub-par content, as is devart, then those members and visitors begin to look elsewhere... which is what I'm considering with DA now.

Well my last foray over there looking for Steampunk related stuff was entirely fruitless, and the overly obese women cartoons are there in abundance, so I will be looking elsewhere for what I want from now on. Things would have to change dramatically before I considered going back.

Also, I would have thought art critics and the real artists of our community may have had a look and a word to say about what's posing as art over there. Oh well..... conversations here are getting harder and harder to come by these days.

For me, Devart reached a new low way back when some bright spark thought posting 'posed' full-frontal photographs of a clearly pre-pubescent girl was his 'right to free expression' and not child pornography and it took far too much argument on my part [and that of many others] than it really should have - to see it removed.

Yes, I know I did life drawing way back in 1972 with nude models...but even then there was an age requirement on the part of the model. I may have been 17...but they were over 18 and thus legally capable of giving consent.

That is entirely a different thing, you were depicting life forms in art class with models of legal age. That's something I couldn't do. I'm not artistic that way and cannot draw to save my life.
