Can I add folders to the Start Menu?

Can I add Folders and then move items/programs into a folder?

Hello, yes you can. Just create a folder on your local drive. Create shortcut or move items into that folder and link Start10 to that new folder. To Link Start10 right panel to that folder:-

1) Right click on Start10

2) Select "Configure Start10"

3) Select Configure -> Click "Advance" button

4) Click "Add" button

5) Select the folder you just create, Click "OK" : Your folder now listed in  Custom place locations box. Click "Close" button.

6) The "Folder Name" appear on the "Which shortcuts do you want on the right hand side?" listbox

7) You can choose To "display as a link or menu or don't display" from the drop down list.

That should do it.

So, then I’ll have 2 folders - that seems a bit counter productive. I guess I’ll create a folder on my desk top and leave it at that.

No, if you already have the folder you can just link that folder to Start10, no new folder needed to be created. Just make sure all the link you needed is in that folder.

thx.

I created a Microsoft Office folder (its below Music) - but was hoping it would be on the left side, with my other programs. 

I could have sworn I did this on another PC running Start10.

I figured it out. Here what I did.

1) Right Click on the folder you wanted to appear on the left panel of Start10. (In Windows Explorer)

2) Select/Click "Pin to Start"

3) On Start10 click "All Programs"

4) That folder you "pin to start", will appear here. Right click on it.

5) Select/Click "Pin to Start Menu (Start10)

And that should do it. To have it listed out on the Left panel of Start10.

Is there tutorial/s or "record of steps" for adding menu items to Start10. Being very new to Start10 and its features I have noted the information proved by  "basj" - which is very helpful but wonder whether there is step by step notes or tutorials available for download from StartDock sites.

I look forward to any valuable comment available.

I do very much appreciate your quick response Basj.

The sample you provided in reply #1 and all subsequent posts will need to form the structure of my proposed menu lines.

Just as a side issue Basj - when you first started compiling your customised menu system what reference material did you use... just interested... as you have shown in quite a sophisticated customisation when placing menu lines together. Your knowledge is fantastic particularly when there is no reference material available to help out. Your earlier replies - #1 and reply #5 you have shown quite a sophisticated method of putting menu lines together.

PS - I opened the another page dealing with my query in error I don't know how to remove it - can you help me please Basj

Basj - would you be so kind as to providing distance training related to the creation of a customised Start10 menu containing several folders and several shortcuts within the 2 folders.

I have tried your step by step tutorial (Reply #1 of this Forum topic). I am really at a loss as to the meaning or the purpose of some of the keywords - for example...

"Display as a link or as a menu or don't display"

I am a bit confused... do I only create one folder for all menu items so do I duplicate the action for all menu headings and then to include actual menu lines that are associated with the lead folder. eg Communications (Being the the section heading) TeamViewer ver13.5.20 (Being the menu line being invoking the specific software).

Having created a folder eg Communications... do I create more folders with menu lines or do I create separate folders for each of the menu headings?.

If separate folders, with the software associated with the Menu heading does Start10 sort the heading names in alphabetical order or am I to pre-identify the order prior to entering menu headings.

I apologise, Basj, if you would prefer not to become involved in helping me make good day-day use of an alternative Start Menu to Windows 10.

Any assistance that you could provide would be very welcome.

Hello Basj,

I thank you for providing me with a copy of the 2 tutorial vids. I am sorry to say that I am unable to improve the quality of the screen resolution features of the 2 videos.

I have really tried to copy the cursor actions but the features being taken by the mouse cursor is proving too difficult to follow as the text is really blurred. Also as there is no audio to coincide with the mouse movements and selection I have found it to be too difficult to follow the steps taken by the cursor.

Is it at all possible Basj to provide the items and the steps as I set out in reply #12.

Hello,

Not really sure why you are getting blurry video. It was upload at Full HD and I can view it at 1080 HD. So the text should be quite clear, as long as the viewer have a reasonable fast connection.

Here a new tutorial video. The step by step guide are listed in the description.

Basj - I am very much indebted to you for providing 3 video presentations. I am now working my way through the creation of menu lines.

You will be pleased thatI have resolved the burring issue on the first 2 videos. - you actually provided a clue as to the reason for burriness of the vids - I changed the screen image to 1080p60 on my laptop. So I now have 3 tutorials to pick from.
