It seems if you add an item to the right side start using Advanced, they are always added as a LINK and not a menu and you have to use Advanced because the folder doesn't show in the regular list.

Once you add that folder through the "Advances" button. That folder will be listed on the list. And you can change it from link to menu or vice versa from there.
