Groupy makes Powerpoint 2016 unstable

If Groupy (v1.16) is ON when opening a PPT file with Powerpoint 2016, Powerpoint reports it has become unstable. You must use Task Manager to close Powerpoint.

With Groupy OFF, Powerpoint launches, opens files, and behaves as expected.

If I turn on Groupy with Powerpoint open and a PPT open, it becomes unstable and unusable. Turn off Groupy and the Powerpoint "unstable" message disappears. Not sure I trust Powerpoint in this state, so I restart it.

Has anyone else discovered an issue with Groupy and Powerpoint? Word and Excel operate well with Groupy enabled. I can mix Word and Excel files in the same group.

I tried disabling Groupy for all Powerpoint Windows, but I was unsuccessful in eliminating the error message.

Please try the " Purge " https://forums.stardock.com/488142/groupy-support-faq#reinstalling

reboot and reinstall

Thanks for the solution. I ran multiple, grouped Powerpoint documents today - no errors or problems. Great!

I still have the same problem that powerpoint keeps saying unstable after re-installing. Interestingly, the problem only occurs when I'm opening PPTs from one course I'm taking, for the other courses' PPTs, the problem doesn't occur yet.

Hello,

You can try to disable hardware graphics acceleration on Powerpoint. I read somewhere it help stability problem. Powerpoint -> File -> Options -> Advance -> Display and tick the "Disable hardware Graphics Acceleration".

Try that and see if it help.

Hello,

Is a fix planned because even with no hardware acceleration, I have the issue with groupy 1.17 and powerpoint. No problem with word and outlook. Strange ?

Problem remains but depends on some files. Desactivate groupy tabs for PPT and it's OK. The file can be opened. No problem with MS Word.

If you have sample of PPT that always giving you the problem and you can pass to us the sample and help us see if the problem is re-produceable on my side.

Hello, sorry for long time. I will reactivate groupy for Powerpoint and see if I have a specific file for you where the problem always happens.

No more problem since a few days. It seems that an update of powerpoint solves maybe some things.

I found the following behavior. I had this problem even if I open the file through explorer. Most of time it happens I open a file from my company network and for security reason I have a message in a yellow box at the top of PPT windows (warning, do you want to modify the file because it comes from network ... not exaclty the sentence). If I don't accept to modify the file (I don't check in the box), the problem occurs. If I check (accept to modify the file) quickly after opening the file, it works. Never had this problem before installing groupy but I'm not sure it comes from groupy. Maybe a new version/correction of PPT which with groupy has this beahvior?

But if you save it locally first instead, then open it, it's fine, yes?

I know this is old, but I can confirm this, if I try to open a .ppt or .pptx from a network drive or say my NAS drive (also networked) it get the popup that power point is unstable, as shown  a few posts up.  But if you move the .ppt or .pptx to a local drive it works correctly.

yes. It is very annoying. It could be a reason for me for not using anymore groupy at work.
