I run programs that use a variety of different resolutions, and also programs which launch in one resolution though when loaded have a different resolution, or which switch resolutions during the program while doing something like playing a video.

Every time I run one of these programs, or each time I run a freshly-installed program that I haven't yet set up the resolution to match my desktop's native resolution, all the icons on each of my Fences pages go all screwed up, like this:

And that is only one Fences page out of 3, each with many icons, that I have.

This icon layout-scrambling happens regularly, and it is driving me crazy. It takes a lot of time to re-organize my icons each time this happens. It's gotten to the point that I don't even attempt to re-organize them anymore, and I just leave them in a gross mess that it cumbersome to look through to find whichever item I want.

And even when I just leave the icons as they are, the next time I open a program that momentarily changes my desktop resolution (and I have multiple programs that do this and run them sometimes daily), the previous mess of disordered icons will be scrambled and disordered in a new and different way. So, even remembering where particular icons are in this mess isn't a solution, since it's a completely different mess every day or so.

Also, this icon-scrambling occurs even on Fences pages other than the one that is currently featured on my desktop.

This icon-scrambling also occurs even after I double-click on my desktop to use Fences' ability to hide all desktop icons before launching any programs.

This icon-scrambling also occurs when a program crashes and leaves the desktop in a non-native resolution.

I've brought this issue up before, and I'm a bit bewildered why this still has to happen. Fences is supposed to be a desktop organizer, right? Well, it has this gaping black hole in its ability to serve its purpose as a desktop organizer due it offering no management over preserving desktop icon positioning when the resolution changes.

There are multiple ways to solve this issue and improve Fences' icon organization capabilities:

- add an option to Fences to preserve hidden desktop icon layout (whenever icons are hidden by double-clicking the desktop)

- add a Fences option to preserve desktop icon layout per resolution (so, every time the resolution returns to whatever is native, the same icon layout will be present)

- have Fences intelligently detect when icons are moved by something other than the system user, and have Fences restore any manual icon placements per resolution when the system automatically moves them

Also, being able to have blank spaces between icons in fences, so that icons within fences can be manually ordered in the same fashion they are on the desktop, would be a nice feature.

I love Fences, and I've promoted it to people. I just find that this icon scrambling thing is one stand-out area where Fences is lacking
