In French we call it "dièse", and it would translate "sharp" (the musical symbol). Don't know if it's the correct name for it in English.

It's referred to as the 'hatch' symbol...as in 'cross-hatch'...

Ok, here is another 'Quiz of the Day'

A lot of hotels, especially the more upscale ones, have a covered entrance to protect guests as they step out of their vehicles. What is that covered entrance called?

My best translation would be "carriage door".

It's an old term refering to when rich people stepped out of their carriage onto the red carpet.
