Wouldn't think so. That resolution doesn't seem exagerated for that gfx card.
I think your puter probably has a problem if it's as bad as you say.
Personnaly I found that Windows slows down A LOT over time. It's been true for every version, and I found that XP is no different. I like to reformat and a clean reinstall of everything about once a year, 18 months max. It's amasing the difference it makes.Other than that, when's the last time you defraged?

Some virus checkers such as Nortons as set as default to scan ALL file type as they are loaded. If you have Norton, make sure you do not have "Comprehensive file scanning (recommended)" checked. This will scan every single file as you open them, and therefore considereably slow the skinning down. Instead, select SmartScan, and select yourself the file types to scan. You can leave it to SmartScan's default settings, it doesn't include image types.If you have another virus checker, look in oyur options, you may have something similar to that although it may be called something else.
