a small question in...English

i got a small doubt in English...since most of u r from the Americas and the Eu, i think you can help.

1. possible
2. probable

ok, suppose u say that:
Possibly, it is Mr.X who might win the race
Probably, it is Mr.Y who might win the race

so, who has more chances of winning the race? is it Mr.X or Mr.Y? i think it is Mr.Y. is it?

1. is probable more possible than possible?
2. is probable more probable than possible?


i am LMHO...not LMAO!!! for this...

Possible means that there is a non-zero chance or probability that something will happen; how large a probability that is isn't specified. Probable implies that it is more likely than not that it will happen, or a probability larger than 50%. I think that's about it in a nutshell. HTH

Possible = It could be.

Probable = more likely than not it will be

Possibly, it is Mr.X who might win the race (he is still in the race)

Probably, it is Mr.Y who might win the race (he is in the race and doing quite well!)

Yeah, in your example you'd be saying that it is likely Mr Y will win the race. You could rephrase it to say, it's possible that Mr. X might win but it is probable that Mr. Y will win.

No, the race was completed under a full-course Safety Car, and red flagged before the full 67 laps...

Depends. If he was talking about your opponents during a pep talk, then he was saying take away their certainty and make them doubt about the outcome. OR maybe if he wasn't thinking he got them mixed up.

Or maybe he forgot the modifiers... turn the probability of loss into the possibility of a win.
