classic brain teaser

you have a balance, and 8 coins, one of the coins is counterfit, and is slightly either lighter or heavier but visually the same. what is the minimum number of weighings you need to find the odd coin. explain yer answer.

A: one, but the lightbulb really has to want to change.

point you can go 10m s, 10m e, 10m n and end up same place - northpole is one, and any point 10m north of a latitude with radius 10m.
