I can't tell you how many skins I've downloaded over the years that look great in a screenshot, but once i install them they're not at all what I want. So many of them are SO close, but that one little detail here or there is just not up to par with my taste. Even skins I like often take 3 or more hours tweaking colors or textures or fonts--only to apply them and see that while I might have improved this or that, I've now completely messed up 5 other elements. It makes me INSANE!
Of course, the obvious answer is, "Well if you think can do better, then do it!"
I've tried several times over the years with whatever has been the latest version of SkinStudio but despite what I like to think is a great aptitude for learning new things, years and years (DECADES) of experience with various software packages used in creating the various graphic elements used in skins, when it comes down to creating a skin--even a very BAD one--I spend about 5 minutes with SkinStudio before getting so frustrated that I'll usually end up not only giving up, but uninstalling SkinStudio and swearing to the Gods of Customization never EVER to attempt such a foolish task again.
Until the next time, of course, when it all plays out the exact same way!
Are there any good tutorials or books specifically on the use of SkinStudio? I've tried starting with a skin I like and changing it (and by changing what I truly mean is RUINING) and I've tried starting from scratch. Can anyone help this very old dog learn a new trick?
