Modern Apps Do Not Skin

Hello,

     When I installed WindowBlinds for Windows 10, I thought that modern apps would get skinned also, at least the top bar of the app.  Was I wrong with that assumption?  It seems to skin everything else, except for Office 2013 apps & modern apps.  Do you know of anyway to fix that?

I don't know how to fix it, but it seems that Microsoft is making less and less skinnable with each new OS.  It could well be that they hard coded Office and Modern Apps, meaning there is no way to skin them.

Personally, I don't use the apps so I uninstalled them all when I was forced to install Win 10.  I also got rid of Cortana and anything else in Win 10 that can phone home to inform Microsoft of 'whatever'.   Yup, it's back to basics for me.... well as much as 10 will let me.

Roy, remember that scene in the first Alien movie (1979), where that little cute baby Xenomorph bursts out of the crew member's chest?

Well, 'Modern Apps' are exactly like that. They do NOT belong in Win32, they're completely alien to it.

What MS was/is trying to do is come up with a closed version of Windows (which, of course, is NOT Windows at all, just runs on top of - or inside - it for the time being) which they can have absolute control over so, among other things, developers are forced to sell their apps through the Windows store, which would render MS a 30% cut of *every* app ever sold without them having to do anything.

So, being alien to Windows, those 'modern apps' have alien DNA. You can't splice Human DNA with Alien DNA - just doesn't work. Two very different universes.

Hello — Thanks for your responses.  Yea, I believe this is just one step closer to a completely different OS where you can't even run the old Windows software. I also think it's a step closer to possibly a SAAS. A subscription OS, if you will.  unfortunately, there is no OS as powerful as Windows 10 with such great touch support.  I have a Surface Pro 3 and it's a wonderful device.  They must've purposely hard coded office 2013 and upward so hat you couldn't change how it looks also. Because I have office 2013 and application doesn't look any different with WindowsBlinds

Skins can alter the min, max, close etc buttons for Universal (AKA modern apps).  Some of the new skins included with WB do.  The images have to be white and they are a glyph vs a formal button but it is better than nothing.

If you use Ice, The Captain or Eva included with WB you should see them change.

Eva, Ice, and the Captain all have Modern UI glyphs.

Does this mean that the "app" bits of the OS, like the Personalize dialog and the Settings menu, also refuse to be themed?  They're the ugliest part!

Look how ugly those drab calculator images are.  It's not necessary to be that ugly just to support touch!  My Panecal calculator app for Android is very nice looking, and it is 100% touch oriented.  This "design language" of Metro/UWP is more like Morse code than any actual language.

I am using Ice and UWP Calculator stays THE SAME as with default Windows theme, so at least for me WB10 doesnt' skin UWP windows' buttons at all, definitely not like in the screenshots you have posted above See the pic:

Uninstall WB, reboot and then reinstall WB.  Better?

Actually, WB is skinning the universal apps. In your screenshot, If you check the Minimize, Close, etc. icons, you will notice that they are different.

Problem is, looks like this is the best WB can do with universal apps. The universal apps don't offer so much options for WB for further skinning and i´m afraid that this is a MS decision, because its "continuum" idea about to have same apps working on different devices, such as desktops, tablets and cellphones.

Your minimize icon seems to be being skinned.  Just your other two which are not.

I would contact support so they can gather information as the other two buttons should be skinned too.

Yes, the minimize button is skinned, but other buttons are different from the screenshots you have provided. That is why I put the Calculator next to it for you to see the difference
