Microsoft Edge application uninstalled when Start 10 v1.05 uninstalled - Control Panel menu problem

Windows 10 - Start 10 Problems

Running Windows 10 10586 Pro on Dell 3487 I7 - Start 10 v1.05 installed:

 

If Start 10 uninstalled it uninstalls Microsoft Edge application - attempted on several re-installations of Windows 10.

 

Can not properly display Microsoft Control Panel when Start 10 set to display Control Panel as a menu - spinning circle icon comes up and Start 10 freezes, have to kill Start 10 with task manager.  Other Start 10 menu displays work correctly.

 

Have not found fix for either issue.

Start10 uninstallation should have no impact on MS Edge.  The uninstaller does not have the ability to remove Universal apps even if it wanted to and I don't think MS Edge can be uninstalled from a system either.

I have checked and the control panel should show just fine as a menu.  Do you have any unusual control panel icons listed normally as it could be something to do with those I suppose.

I have discovered that after Start 10 is installed it modifies the Microsoft Edge Shortcut to point to stardoc folder to add launch.exe to its path and when Strat 10 is uninstalled the short cut no longer works and is no returned to normal.  Normal path for edge is: %windir%\explorer.exe shell:Appsfolder\Microsoft.MicrosoftEdge_8wekyb3d8bbwe!MicrosoftEdge.  Edge is not like a normal .exe and can not be placed on the desktop directly.  So I've discovered that edge is not removed but its shortcut is rendered non functional.

No shortcuts are modified.  Would this perhaps be a shortcut you created from the Start10 menu itself?

Links in Start10 will indeed go via launch.exe but that would only be for shortcuts created by Start10 itself.  It will not alter any existing shortcuts.

well it does modify the Microsoft Edge shortcut on the desktop. The Microsoft Edge shortcut is not a standard short cut and can not be created by right clicking on the application.  I've actually reloaded Windows 10 10586 from clean backup with no Start 10 installed and then installed Start 10 and every time Microsoft Edge shortcut is modified to point to the Stardock folder with launche.exe inserted.  The original shortcut had explorer.exe inserted.  Each time I ununstall Start 10 the Microsoft Edge shortcut can no loner find launch.exe and asks if you want do delete the shortcut.  Looking on the internet you can find a few different ways to set up a new shortcut to Microsoft Edge. If you got to the link below you will see 3 methods:

I've also have attempted to set Control Panel to menu but it will not work on my computer - it gives spinning cursor, slows mouse movement to a crawl, and I have to kill it from task manager. Again this was done from several clean Windows 10 installs.

Here is the modification made to Microsoft Edge shortcut on the desktop:

 

"C:\Program Files (x86)\Stardock\Start10\Launch.exe" /Microsoft.MicrosoftEdge_8wekyb3d8bbwe!MicrosoftEdge

 

So when you remove Start 10 you lose the Microsoft Edge shortcut.....

Here are a couple of other easy ways to get MS Edge shortcut back on desktop:

 

Easy #1:  Thanks for the tip, Thomas Matula:

    There is a MUCH easier way. All you have to do is hold down your shift-key and right-click the Microsoft Edge shortcut that is on your task bar and click create shortcut. A prompt will come up stating “Windows can’t create a shortcut here. Do you want to place a shortcut on the desktop instead?” Click yes, and you have your short-cut, icon and all!

Easy #2:  Thanks for this tip, Mark Lindsay:

    Can just click and drag from the Start Apps menu link to edge straight to the desktop.
