Performed Latest Start 10 Update Then Rebooted - Laptop Does Not Boot

This is a laptop that doesn't get powered on but about once a week or so. This morning I read that there was a major Windows 10 update posted on Thursday, so I powered-up this laptop and after signing-in to Windows, there's a window asking if I want to update Start 10. I click yes, the update is applied, and then told to reboot the laptop. I acknowledge and reboot the laptop, the Bios seems to work, the LED blinks indicating there is hard drive access, then the screen only displays a blinking cursor. The boot process will not continue. I can power-off and go into the Bios, everything looks OK but this laptop will not boot after installing this latest Start 10 update. Do you have any idea how many days it took to install Windows 10 on this laptop? Now I'm looking at having to reinstall?

What's the advice from here?

I imagine something else was waiting for a reboot to perform a change and that's where the problem has come from.

Start10 does not startup until well into the boot process (well the login process in fact) so if it is failing before then it is probably an unrelated issue.

Will it allow you to access recovery options?

The Start 10 update window popped-up after I logged into windows, once the Start 10 update was downloaded and installed, Start 10 required a reboot. After which the laptop refuses to boot.

To answer your question. I can not boot into windows to access any recovery options.

I have another Windows 10 laptop that I just powered-up and logged into Windows, guess what just popped up? Yes is it the Start 10 Window asking if I want to download and install an update for Start 10 (33.9 MB). I'm not going to install it.

All I can say is I do not believe Start10 was directly responsible for your problem. It does not install any drivers and neither does it alter any OS files. The fact your computer is unable to boot is most likely a coincidence. I know that's not what you want to hear, but trust me we know what a product can impact and the boot process is well before any of our code gets running.

Your other computer will also prompt for an update as the update has been available for the past week. It is worth noting these forums are not full of people with your issue.

I used a Windows 10 USB and was able to perform a system restore that was two weeks old. The laptop has now booted-up and appears to be working properly now. I'll have to update Start 10 at a later date.

Meanwhile the other Windows 10 laptop had several Windows updates to apply and once installed and rebooted, I downloaded and installed the Start 10 update. After a second reboot, the laptop seems to be working properly.

These laptops don't normally have issues like this. All my computers have had a version of Start X from Stardock for a number of years. This is the first issue involving any of their software.

Have now performed the latest Start 10 update on the affected laptop mentioned above. The November Windows 10 update took several hours to complete and only after these OS updates were completed did I attempt to update Start 10.
